'09 Ram 1500 w/ Cummins V-8 is cool..

..At least it SOUNDS cool. They aren't even trying to be covert with this at all anymore. The test mule sits in our parking lot overnight, exposed to the world. When it's running, you can't tell it's diesel-- it's remarkable. It has tons of fan noise (which may have been intentional at the time).

The styling was killer too. I've seen a sporty looking reg cab shorty running around (looks very cool).

But I've also seen a mini-mega too. I suspect it will be the new Quad Cab, but with a bigger back seat-- just not quite in MC range. The doors are almost the same size front and rear.

I love the styling of the new Ram, and the new Cummins light duty V-8 is going to make a lot of waves when it hits the market, I suspect.

The concept was to have a Hemi replacement that got better mileage and had more torque. It certainly is the same size or so as a Hemi, and it looks positively tiny compared to most other Cummins blocks.

Anyone who, like me, drives a CTD but doesnt' really work it or need it should strongly consider a 1500 CTD to get their CTD fix in a great package.

I have no word on final hp/tq/mpg-- but the rumor is 28mpg hwy and around 400lb-ft.

..sorta like a first Gen, right?

28 mpg hwy would be great. I personally don't get too excited over the light duty V8 engine though. The same way I don't get excited over a V8 Powerstroke or Duramax. It's cool, no doubt; and I'm sure lots of people will like it.

The Cummins logo on it is in italic, not in block type-- very cool. It's a sweet-looking engine, never mind the performance it's supposed to deliver.

This time next year we should all be able to test drive one.

Rumor has it that a hybrid is in the works for 2010, but the Dodge guys are pretty secretive within Cummins, and I don't get to learn any of their cool stuff.

Even if I did, I couldn't say. (NDA)

Those test trucks are not hard to spot. Usually the flat black paint job that looks like it came out of a krylon can, runs and all is a start. The big Emergency stop button on the dash is a bit of a giveaway.

Rumor has it that one of them was under water (1/2 way up the drivers window) in the flood and has already been smashed flat. Any imput on that?

That's what I heard too-- parked at OLY and flooded out. Rumors are notoriously inaccurate though.

Here's to hoping I can move back in to CTC soon...

I knew this was coming! Don't compare this to a DMax yet.

Geez, I hear the new Ford V8 diesel for its F-150 is rated at 520 ft lbs.

Are there 2 versions of the Cummins? I thought a V6 and 8 were on the way?

I don't think the V-6 is nearly as far along, or even has the official green light. It's kept quiet, if it's even still in existence and not mothballed.

Haha, there it was in the first reply. Frankly, at first I didn't include the Duramax because I do have respect for it, but I thought if I singled out the Powerstroke because it's a V8, I might as well include the Duramax as well.

Nothing wrong with a V8 diesel as long as it's in a light duty. I think they are going to sell very well.

Yeah there's a few of us on here so if I didn't get ya somebody else would! There's plans for a light(er) duty Dmax, a 4.5 l for the half tons though too. Even though the 6.6 is classified as light heavy duty it's a stout workhorse and the hot shot truck of choice in my area.

Nothing wrong with a V8 diesel as long as it belongs to someone other than ME!

If fuel prices keeps going up and up the little Dakota crewcab with the Cummins V6 will be a winner. I hope it comes with the manual-matic transmission.
