WVO Horror stories

All,

I was wondering if anyone has heard of or has been that guy to have problems with running WVO? I was wondering if anyone can tell of lessons learned of a problem they had. What was the end result? Did you have to swap out fuel pumps? Did your Lift pump STheBed? I just want to know the negitive things from guys who have seen stuff.

It seems there are only two kinds of guys here; those that run WVO and like it and those who are against it due to studies they have heard or seen. Just trying to get more info and desipher the stuff...

Thanks,
Jake

I've been cutting WVO for about a year now with no known ill effects. I have had to do one LP replacement (no way of knowing if it was the WVO or just it's time) and had the injectors out after about 12K miles of using WVO. They were exceptionally clean..... Granted it took a little trial and error to get everything hammerd out........

Keep eye on oil

Keep an eye on the engine oil. I ran mine too long while running Straight WVO and contaminated the engine oil to the point that it plugged a skirt oiler and severly damaged my engine.

This is the stuff I am looking for.. Thanks... What would you recommend? DC says 12500 on light duty and 7500 on heavy duty... I do 10000... What do you do or would you have done?

Thanks Jake

Akghound, did you switch over before it was warm at all? Curious if blowby from a cold top end might have allowed the stuff past the rings.
After what Ive heard Id do oil analysis for the first few thousand miles just to be safe. Seems like running filtered, de-watered oil and doing it once the motor is good and warm on diesel is the best thing.

I think this is what I am going to do... I guess the $$$ for the samples would be a good investment... I have heard that samples will not show the glyserin in the oil though... Maybe just more intervals would be safer...Saving $100/ tank should free up a few bucks for oil and filters....

Honestly, I dont know how youd filter that stuff out unless you ran it through a filter cold.
If the tests dont pick up glycerin and food fats, is there a lubricity test they do? The worry is the veggie oil lowering lubricity.
The veggie oil would also be acidic, Id expect to see corrosion byproducts in an oil analysis.
Maybe the best thing is to run normal dino oil and change it every 3k
