Old timers stories

Is it just me or are all of the old time story tellers getting fewer and fewer? I use to love to go over to my wife's great uncles places and listen to them tell stories. One was a strip miner in the hills of Pa and the other was a self employed plumber. The old fellow that use to live next to us here was a good story teller too. He was a retired tug boat captain. I could sit and listen for hours but it seems like the story tellers are becoming less and less. They could tell stories that could have you rolling on the floor and the thing that made it so good was that most of the stories were things that actually happened to them.
Is it just me or is anyone else seeing this too?

Re:Old timers stories

That's exactly what I mean. I remember sitting on the floor around Grandpap listening to stories as a kid and I guess it just grew on me from there. All of the old time story tellers here in town are nearly gone now.

Re:Old timers stories

I liked the stories when my family full of vets got together. Grandad (WWI infantry), Uncle (WWII B17 tailgunner), Uncle (Korea infantry), Uncle (Viet Nam Marine Recon).

Always made me appreciate the old timers.
