My 6.7 horror story

07 6 speed quad cab cab chassis
At 10,000 miles truck began to run very rough and emit large amounts of black smoke. I took the truck back to my dealer and the first thing they said was bad diesel (moisture) and that #4 injector was out. $2000 for repair and void my entire warranty. After 2 months of fighting with dealer and Chrysler rep (what jerks) while my truck was sitting in shop they wanted $10000 for entire new fuel system as to retain warranty. I ended up paying $1500 (what that was for I do not know) but i received all new injectors and fuel system cleaning. Truck now has 29,000 miles and runs perfect. Chrysler basically said any water at all and all bets are off.

I did. Water in fuel light never came on. Nor did I ever get a signal from overhead console. They said if they find any water in fuel then its case closed no matter what. And I can quote Chrysler on that.

Don't want to be mean, but sell it now. 6.7's got serious problems comming. Get a good used 5.9, friend has 6.7 and at 400 m. cat. converter clogged. EGR problem. Dealer warranty covered. Now has had ECM flashed 2 times with less than 16k on odometer. Fuel mileage at 13 to 14 mpg. Last trip to dealer they told him to run the truck with the exhaust brake on for awhile in order to blow out the system. Bad juju man. Lots of heat build up there.

I can't understand why some of you consider an ECM flash as a negative thing; I don't. Don't any of you ever install patches and updates to programs and system software on your personal computers? It's no different. What scares me more is when the flashes stop and the "problems" continue. That means we've been hung out to dry. In the mean time, a new flash means they're still addressing things and that sure beats the alternative.

You have a point there. Seems the 6.7's aren't proven yet and I have fought DC once already on a '01. I come from old school where time is money. We work in a rough field where 7/12's for extended periods of time are required. We depend on these trucks to haul our campers and haul our welding machines. These trucks get us to the job and to the grocery store. What I am saying is if we pay what we do for these vehicles we shouldn't be carting them to the dealership to pay for warranty work. I don't have the time or patience for these things. Especially when excessive time away from the job causes you to be let go. Time is money.

Great, hope he has no problems ever. Had to hunt to find my '07 5.9 the issues I had problems with were the lift pump and VP44. 7 lift pumps. 5 VP44's. Then fixed it with a FASS and an Edge comp. Still have '01 with 287,000 k on it. Learned the hard way.

At that very instant you should have taken a sample of fuel from your tank and had an independent testing facility make a proper determination.

The fueling station and DC would both be footing the repair bill, especially if the WIF light never illuminated.

I have a hard time with water in the fuel and no warning voiding the warranty. That doesn't even make since to me. I don't believe the 6.7 has any more problems than the older models. The 24 valve models had lift pump and VP-44 problems. The 2003 and up had lift pump and also problems with the high pressure pump. I know, I replaced three of them in the 345,000 miles I put on my 03. On my 07 cab and chassis, I have replaced the throttle control valve at 50k and a universal joint last month at about 89k. I will roll over 100,000 miles in the next few days and pull a trailer everyday for a living. Gross weights up to 35k. (truck, trailer and load) My fuel mileage is only about 1 mpg less than the 03. For me, the 07, 6.7 cab and chassis is working out just fine.

I would also be pushing the issue about the WIF light not working...... They would have to explain that one to me and my lawyer. No since in all this business. They should fix the problem!!!!!!!!

I drain my fuel off before I fire my truck up after sitting all week.

"should" is not in Chrysler's vocabulary. water in fuel is usually a death knell no matter what engine it affects. 6.7L just happens to be the most expensive death knell.

you have one option in this case, retain legal counsel. I am telling you from experience. don't cry to corporate, don't cry to the BBB, sue Chrysler.

something in the fuel system did not work as designed, to use the magic word here, there "should" be no way water can ever reach an injector.
