Exclamation Want MPG?? Go buy a compact car! (Rant)

Why is it that so many people complain about thier MPG's with diesel trucks. If you really want high MPG's go buy a small car. These are trucks were driving!!!! They are not made to go 100 miles on a gallon of fuel. I can get 20-22mpg out of my truck if I baby it and 16-18 on it with normal driving. My 2001 with a V-10 would barely get 14MPG babying it. These trucks have more power and better fuel economy then any full size gas powered truck on the road today. So if your not happy, stop complaining and go buy yourself a compact car!!!!!

Now, I feel better.......Happy Holidays

Agreed.

I was over at my auts house for dinner, and my cousin was there who just bought a Chevy Aveo(gets like 40 mpg on the highway). She was raggin on my truck about being to manley and praising him for being econimically smart buying a small compact car. My agrument was plain and simple. If your not paying for my fuel in my vehicle hush it up, I make decent money and drive what I want.

Then I went into detail about what women realy want from a car. Compact or full size.

Ditto!

But, It sure feels good saying I get 20MPG highway out of a 3/4 ton 4wd truck, with an engine rated at 610 ft.lb of torque. 'Sure pisses off those gasser 1/2 ton, 2wd, V-8 owners!

I really appreciate my truck mileage as well. I came over from the gas guzzler side. I had an 02 Ram with a 5.9 in it. There's apicture in my gallery. It was a really nice truck but the best mileage I ever got was on a pure highway road trip and I got 14 empty with a bed cover and going 70mph. I averaged 190 to 210 miles per tank. 7-9mpg in the winter, thats completely empty. My current truck got almost 12 the last tankful in really cold weather, and with about ten hours of idleing time. No hwy miles at all and I got about 340 miles out of the tank.

Ask your aunt, would she rather be in your cousin's Aveo or in this truck while hit broadside from a mid size car at 50mph? This is 05MXDiesel's Truck after such a wreck.

Bought a 91 crx with 231,000 miles on it for mileage. Darn thing gets 38 mpg, uncomfortable, noisy, rides bad, and is a coffin if in an accident. I only use the truck when I need a truck. I commute 4 miles each way, waste of a good truck to use it for that. I'm going to run the honda into the ground.

Haha brainwashing at it's best.

You know darn well if one of the major car manufacturers marketed a truck with gobs of power and 40 mpg they would sell every one they could produce.
(except mebbe the 6.0h no why did I waste my money on this junk engine)

If I had a choice I'd rather be in our BMW for a collision than my truck.

I have owned 6 CTD's and have driven them over 1.1 million miles. The 5.9 is an excellent engine, but the think is I have had a '92 and '93 that with a little tweaking on the pump ran circles around the '02 I had and the '05 that I have now. The deal with the mileage is ridiculous, not because we want to drive big trucks, I have to drive a truck but that doesn't mean I like to waste $3-4K dollars per year per truck out the exhaust pipe for no reason.
If Dodge/Cummins had to change the engine from the original B 5.9 then they should have stepped up with a compatible tranny that would allow for power and mileage. Like the 6+1 7 spd. That they use in the International trucks.
wouldn't add very much cost to the truck but would really boost MPG because the gears would be closer together and you could run 70 at somewhere around 1700-1800 RPM............oh well maybe I will get some spare time and does some modifying on one of our trucks..............
For those of you who love wasting your fuel money buy an '05 3500 dually and you can average 12 mpg for everyday ranch work driving like I do......

I went from a v10 4dr, 4x4, 5spd superduty to mine current truck. Didnt complain about the v10 sure aint complainin about the I6. Sure Id love to get 40 miles to a gallon but thats not what I bought the truck for. It goes hand in hand with the ride quality, if my truck dont ride like a tank it aint truck enough.

Why is it that you feel the need to complain about the complainers? If you don't want to know of the complaining, don't read about it. Don't even click the thread!

The complainers, are the folks that didn't get a magical truck that gets 22 mpg. Like me for example only getting 15. In essence, we're frustrated that we're not getting what others are, which makes us simply jealous.

I just wish we could buy some of the turbo diesel cars that are sold in Europe. The closest we got was the twin turbo V10 diesel VW Tourage. But, it was $60K and only sold here for a year. But, I wanted one, 310 hp @ 3750 rpm with a maximum torque of 553 lbs. ft. at 2000 rpm.
They get a number of those and they are fast with good economy.

Its not that I dont value my life fred, I drive 4 miles each way and it is at 5am, and 5:30 pm, not too many cars, nor animals on the road at that time where I am, so the risk is no too great. thanks though, for your concern.
