They will be blaming it on that blown well in the gulf soon, just hold on a bit.Up here in Canada fuel goes up just before every long weekend and in the spring and slowly cimbs all summer.Drive way out of the cities to small towns and fuel is way cheaper even though it has to be trucked all that way.We even have the tar sands, enough oil for 300 yrs at current demands ,but you would never know it,every excuse is used for climbing oil prices.

What Pull-Do said X 10. The internet makes available so much bad misinformation and opinion (like CNN) that people grab on to.

It's not the gubmint.
BP has spent 45 million so far on the gulf cleanup, that's since the start 20 something days ago. They need to pay for those costs....which equal almost 7 whole days worth of BP profit last year
The problem is that we allow nothing to get in the way of the almight corporate dollar.
BP and every other oil company will raise prices every chance they get because they can!!!
Taxes are a small percentage and haven't substantially changed in the last couple of months BUT FUEL PRICES HAVE GONE UP.
It's easy to blame government because they can't fight back and they do such stupid things that they make it easy. But US government is supposed to be by, of and for the people. If you don't like them vote them out. If you did vote and you lost then more "of the people" like the guy you didn't...DEAL WITH IT!

Sorry for taking so long to answer, but after 40+ years of working and now retired, when the wife or I feel a trip is needed, it’s needed.

As for the pricing, all facilities can usually run at a somewhat constant fix rate year to year with slight differences, and figure in supply fluctuations prices, plus state and fed taxes, that’s where final prices vary. When crude increases, the prices can be increase and it appears it’s not an issue with the government. When crude increase, they make more profit. Look at the difference in profits they earned the last 5 years, then look at the crude prices in the same time frame . Different than you would expect. But the ‘Supply verses Demand’ strategy is big and running strong. I heard with the world economy as it is, they should be dropping the crude prices soon and the price at the pump will be dropping some, but don’t expect major drops. Watch crude prices and the fuel prices on the street. But do your ever notice the price of crude goes up and the price at the pump jumps just as fast ? Then the price of crude drops quickly, and the price at the pump takes forever to drop ? The makeup of the fuel composition on the west coast verses the central and east coast is different some what, but there is usually a major difference in price. Check www.Mapquest.com and go to the fuel prices, check the diesel prices of your area, L.A., Chicago, Nashville, New York and then Little Rock areas. Last time I check the difference between L.A. and Nashville, there was a 35 cents per gallon difference. Why ? I believe it’s what the market can bear. I’ve seen both areas and they both had clean diesel.

They should never have deregulated everything 10 to 15 years ago. I blame both political parties for that.

And by the way, when I started driving, we paid 28 cents per gallon for gas and 17 cents per gallon for diesel.
