Please excuse my ignorance - Boost Fooling???
What is boost fooling. I'm seeing alot of this with different mod boxes / downloaders. Just not sure what it means or what it's for.
Also, the Smarty unit has settings for added timing. How does this help or hurt under different circumstances ie loaded or unloaded.

Boost Fooling -
Basically the aftermarket mod BOX is fooling the PCM factory computer into making the turbo produce MORE boost than it normally would. For example, the PCM knows that 31 PSI is the MAX the factory turbo will boost. So, when the factory sensor reads 31PSI, the wastegate will open, therefore it will NOT go above 31psi boost.
With a mod BOX, it fools the computer by sending a different signal, so when in REALITY the turbo is making 35-40psi, the factory computer is still reading 30psi or less. The wastegate doesn't open.
You then can make MORE boost (power) with the factory turbo. THERE IS A CATCH!
The factory turbo loses its effective range after 35psi. The factory turbo can BREAK if allowed to spin into the 40s. IMHO, I would not go into the 40s if you are looking for longevity for your turbo.

Boost quality is just as important as boost quantity...
