I would love to pay what it costs, without taxes and gov/ enviro regs on producers and refiners. Here in CA the taxes are over 80 cents a gallon. Most people blame big oil, but between OPEC (a cartell) and taxes/regs, that is why our fuel is so high. Many look at the profits and go man they are taking us to the cleaners!, Many products that we buy and never think twice about have a much higher profit margin. The reason the oil company's are raken in the doe is cuz we are guzzlin the stuff! Any body know how many holes they have to drill to find the stuff? know what it costs? ever hear of R&D, 10-30,000 ft holes arent cheap and with regs and impact studys the costs are huge. they may drill several (in the millions) with no results. Thats my two cents, great now I am all riled up.

X 2!!! Most folks don't seem to grasp the reality of why energy costs what it does.

Yay! Some people that actually have an idea what it really COSTS to find that oil. Not to mention how much it costs to get it out of the ground! I've been on jobs (not even big ones!) where it costs the exploration company tens of thousands of dollars just to get an idea of what is in the hole they just drilled.

Plus, no matter how good of an explorationist or geologist you have. they are making an educated guess about what is thousands of feet below based on the surface, some gas sniffing and core samples help but untill you pay out for the rig and hole you dont know what youve got. My granddad and his brother are geologists and have been all over the world looking for gas,oil and steam, after a career (30-40 years) they still only got lucky once in a while! And then the enviros chain themselves to the derek!

Just paid $3.01/gal in Annandale Va.
Saw another station with $3.09/gal advertised.

Unleaded gasoline was $2.65 a gallon at both stations.
