Got a question for yall

I filled the truck up yest ($90 freaking bucks later ) and noticed a sticker on the pump that read "low sulfur diesel, it is against federal law for vehicles 07 and later to run this as it could damage the engine." What's the deal with that? I read it 3 times just to make sure I read it right. What are these guys supposed to run if they can't run that stuff by law? And secondly, how is anyone gonna know the difference if they run it or not?

repeating what i've heard...
2007 and beyond must meet tighter epa emissions standards, which will require the use of a new 'ultra low sulfur' fuel, which is not yet out at the stations. In the meantime, everyone is required to post a warning that their fuel does not meet 07 standards. I've also heard (?) that stations will only carry the new fuel, and it's supposed to work ok on 06 and back vehicles.

Ahh. Now explain to me how anyone's going to know the difference if an 07 runs the 06 and earlier fuel.

From what I've heard, if you run High-Sulfur Diesel in an engine designed for Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel, then you can damage the engine.

Don't know how true that is (Infidel probably does), but our high sulfur fuel has been an excuse for years for why all of the little fancy European Diesel cars can't be imported to America.

I don't know what pointless pork-barreled law says that you can't legally run High-Sulfur Diesel in your newer truck, and I don't think you'll get in any legal trouble, but you wouldn't want to do that anyways.

I wonder if it might void your warranty, though... I wouldn't think so, but I'd say that's the worse thing that might happen.

I figured that much. All I know is that the sticker said it's against federal law for 07 and later vehicles to run low sulfur fuel. The sticker also said that their are 500ppm max of sulfur in the fuel.

A large portion of stations already are selling ULSD whether they tell you or not.
Most all stations will be selling ULSD by the time the '07s come out.

High sulphur content kills the emissions stuff on the 07s that is why it is illegal to run std. #2 diesel. If you buy an 07 and decide to drive it to Mexico you will come back not passing emissions. I don't know if it actually harms the engine, whether it just turns on the CEL, but it does foul the EGR and particulate trap.

what I wonder is if they are going to continue keeping the only difference between diesel for the on road use and home heating oil just the dye, is my furnace going to be burning ulsd that is red or is home heating oil unchanged? If they are not changing HHo, why not, you gotta be kidding me if they think that how many millon homes buning "high sulfer " heating oil arent going to do the same amount of harm that the fuel our vehicles could do. know where I am coming from?

Both Mexico and Canada on a schedule to switch to ULSD also. Won't be as soon as the US but is within the next year.

sulpher to a diesel catalytic converter(new 07's) has the same effect as leaded gasoline would have on a conveter in the cars of today. Kills the converter, plain and simple. So for the engines to meet emissions standards they HAD to have the converters on them, but they would not last with the low sulpher diesel, so, now we have ulsd. Just what I heard from the guy at BP.

It's not just the cats that will clog up on the '07s, they will also be equipped with an exhaust soot scrubber that clogs with high sulfur.

Will using B20 or B100 in an 07 and later affect the cat like #2? I am sorta in the market for a new rig,(don't tell my truck). I have been using B100 for awhile not only because it supports American farmers and not OPEC, but it's actually cheaper than ol' #2 right now. Heck, I might just stay with it even if it gets more expensive again.

At the present time using a BD mix of over 50% can be chancy with a common rail engine.
