It is up to 3.89 here, absolutely ridiculous. I keep track of mpg, price per gallon etc. on each fill up since I bought my first diesel in 1999. At that time I paid 99 cents per gallon and almost exactly one year ago it was 2.35 per gallon. These priced totally hurt my wallet, I hardly even drive anymore. I walk to work.

I have been turning out over $100 fillups in the past six months. If it goes over $4/gallon, I think I will have to park the truck and buy a beater car or try to sell the truck. Who would buy it though with the price of fuel? When I bought the truck in 2004, diesel was $1.63/gallon. It has more than doubled since than and it seems as there is no end in sight. I feel sorry for my buddy who is a long haul trucker...he goes through $1100 of fuel in two days! A gas truck or a nice Nissan Maxima is sounding really good to me right now.

you and me both. i bought my truck almost a year ago and fuel was cheaper than gas and i was content with that. now its thet otal opposite. ive been in my truck a few months now and i know the money i have in it i wont get out of it and ill be in the hole. a new accord or altima is looking nice... hell maybe even a FJ cruiser.

I got into a diesel truck awhile back because my gas truck was netting me 8mpg's. I love that I am getting 17-18 mpg, but yeah the higher fuel is getting the harder it is.

Yeah, it is getting bad. I bought the diesel based on long term cost of diesel vs gas. I think I am still coming out ahead of my old gasser, but not by much. I can't wait for the weather to break.

I have been looking at Craigslist for a cheap high gas mileage car to drive when I really don't need to drive my truck. Researching the Kia Rio and some older Hondas right now.

I drive about 20000 miles per year

Car at 35 mpg = 571 Gallons x $4/Gal = $2285
Truck at 15 mpg = 1333 Gallons x $4/Gal = $5333

A dependable $1500 car would pay for itself in one year if I drove it half the time.

15 MPG is what I average over several tanks. I do a lot of in town stop & go driving.

I filled the wifes Excursion up on the way back from a Wild Horse Race practice this weekend and it cost $147.

Not saying that buying a beater is a bad idea but, how much are you going to pay for the insurance? What about the upkeep? I too was thinking of buying a beater, however all the other added "stuff "that comes with another car might not seem like a wise idea.

Brian

Again not flaming but I thought I would just throw that in.

come on now...

take a 35 gal tank and fill it up at 3.79/gal. total bill $132.95
than jack the price to 4.00/gal and thetotal bill is now $140.00

figure if you can squeeze 700 miles out of that fuel (20 mpg) the per mile cost is only .189c/on the 3.79 fill up and .200c/mile on the 4.00 fill up.

I don't know about you guys but I can certainly afford to drive my CTD for .01c per mile higher fuel cost.

One way to make it last a little longer is to stop listening to that turbo spool up and those stacks "bark". LoL

I find it very difficult but it becomes easier with practice.

Keep driving.

ive been thinking about a beater myself, especially since i fill up once a week and thats driving conservatively. but the added cost of insurance and the upkeep i could just throw it in the tank of the ctd and only have to worry about one vehicle. i think ill take the ctd off the road alittle bit when it hits 100k. but till then ill mod her here and there and keep my foot out of it- sometimes.

20 mpg on a regular basis is bull in my opinion unless you do all unloaded highway driving. I have gotten very close to 20, and that was with 100% highway miles and driving very nicely. The stop and go driving that I do kills my mileage. It costs a lot to get these big trucks moving.

You are correct, I do need to take into account the extra maintenance & insurance costs.

the only time i see over 20 mpg is driving a long distance at a decent speed. other than that, on my 35 mile commute home ill see around 16/17, unloaded, doing the speed limit.
