It'll be warm enough here the next couple of days to ride the old Suz DR650. That's a double cost savings for me since I won't stop for a couple of beers after work on the bike.

How the heck do you get 16/17 mpg?
Is that hand calc'd or overhead?

Maybe something is wrong with my truck or the way I drive, but I get like 12-13.5 at the most. Hand calc'd.

About 30% of my driving is city. The rest is highway commute at about 70mph.

i am hearing rumors of the 2009 TDI's getting upper 50's

i have been trying to get in a TDI for the wife, but she wants 4wheel drive....maybe toyota will release their 4runner in diesel.

check out youtube. top gear took a diesel toyota Hilux and 4runner to the north pole, first ever to drive there. the videos are AMAZING, the stuff these vehilces can do is awesome.

no thats not off my overhead, overhead reads anywhere from 18-20. ive come to see its approx 3 miles off so thats how i get my mpg. if it shows 20, i know im getting around 17... its not the most accurate but its **** close. as far as how... i keep my foot out of it, tires properly inflated, fluids at the right levels, smarty on a reasonable setting and just take my time.

I have to fill up tomorrow and I'm dreading it, 3.85 - 3.99 around here. A older honda civic sounds better and better everyday. My uncle has a 92' with a 5 speed, 40 mpg at 80 mph.

Why is diesel so high though? In CA fuel in general has always been higher. But, today diesel is high all across the country. Why now? Supply, plant down, ULSD? What is it? Or is it the typical, "just because?"
