Dirty Bastages

Just got home from a 1300 mile run to northern Kali. How is it that EVERY station we used and saw, including here where we live in the land of Bilk and money, #2 was anywhere from $2.47 to $2.79 except the last one we had to fill up at in Dunghole Ca where there were still at $3.50 a gal. Also at the all the truck stops at 41/I-5 it was $3.00. Guess they rely on dummies like like me to near run out and rob us.

When I head out on road trips, I carry two filled 5 gallon plastic jugs so if I'm running low, I can be a little more selective on the price I have to pay for fuel.

I paid $2.29 at a Sheetz here yesterday while on the other side of the road was a Crown station selling at $2.99. My choice was easy.....

the one thing I have noticed around here, the cheaper places have no posted cetane rating, where the mid to higher priced stations do have the stickers, albeit they are only rated at 42..... gotta figure out if the other stations are supposed to post the rating, I know gas and diesel laws are different here, pretty sure that you can pump your own fuel but it is illegal to pump your own gas.

By Law, it has to be a minimum of 40 Cetane to be called Diesel Fuel.

In Virginia, the state requires the minimum Cetane rating of their fuel to be displayed on the pump.
Most stations are @ 40 cetane.
Most of our Hess stations are labeled as 45 cetane.

I cant remember which stations they were but occasionally I see "premium diesel #2" and then some others say "no name" diesel. Makes ya wonder. I do need to tote some cans with me, however we had the camper on and the cans always ends up upsidedown somehow #2 robably would make a good wood preservative eh?.
