dirty air cleaner
dirty air cleaner
Checking all the fluids and air filter on my truck last night and I saw the my air filter was pretty dirty. I have a K&N on it. I think that my dirty air filter was causing my higher than normal egt's. I cleaned it out and going to see if that helped the problem today. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Thanks for the help.
Re:dirty air cleaner
A dirty air filter will raise you egts. Do you oil your k&N if you do then I would stop. Cause I found out that if you oil it the turbo will suck the oil down into the intake. Thats would I heard I might be wrong but I stopped doing it.<br>SD03
Re:dirty air cleaner
If you stop oiling your K&N filter you can expect to dust your engine pretty quick. That is the whole idea behind the cotton gauze media inside the filter. It HAS to be oiled in order to filter like it should. Go buy some filter oil for that filter ASAP. SuperiorDiesel, if you are not sure about your anwser, then dont post!!! This guy could have ruined an 8k engine because of your little comment.
The reason why so many people have so many problems with an oiled cotton gauze filter sucking oil in is because they overoil it. Spray the filter sparingly and let it soak, then go back and see if anymore oil is needed. After you are finished, wipe off any excess oil and let it dry.
