Air Cleaner Dirty Indicator

2004 305/555 Engine Air Cleaner Gauge. The top was missing when I checked the oil yesterday. It looked to be a pretty even break all around the top where the reset button is located. It didn't look like something hit it as it wasn't a jagged break. First diesel I have owned and wondered how this could happen. Truck has less than 1000 miles.

Someone was messing with it that's how. Lets see what is this yellow plastic cap for? hmm....opps. Get another one so no unfiltered air in sucked in. Or test it using the time tested highly technical suck and blow technique, ideal for filter minder. If you have a good seal no worries and stick it back in the rubber grommet.

Thanks N. Johnson for the reply. Went to dealer today and their explanation was a rock or animal got thrown into it and broke off button section. Truck only has 1150 Miles on it and when it was delivered it had a piece of soundproofing on the middle of the firewall missing. They replaced it and when I checked the oil saw the broke filter minder. Just wonder if it got stepped on??? I went on forum to see if this could be problem for other people. This was first replacement filter minder they ever ordered and had trouble finding it on the schematic. Get new one tomorrow. Thanks for reply.

I wouldn't trust the indicator on ther filter housing. I removed my filter one day and it was filthy. So I changed the filter and it increased my mileage back to where it was (16mpg).

I have a 4:10 rearend and get about 16 mpg around town and about 18-20 mpg highway. I think thats pretty good. It has lota power even when towing heavy load.

I would like to replace that filter minder with a dash mounted vacuum gauge.
Problem is, I can't find a gauge with a small enough scale. This is a VERY small amount of vacuum especially when you have holes drilled in the bottom of the air box.
