Advice on fuel additives please

I currently use RedLine.

Can you tell me about some other additives & where I can find it?

Please only advise on ones you've actually used yourself...thanks in advance

Power Service (white bottle) Works for me! 180,000 on the same VP-44.

Can you post a picture of your seat covers? I've never seen a Dodge CTD with purple seats.

White jug Power Service for me also, easy to find, even Walmart has it.
VP-44 = the heart of your 24 valve engine, the fuel injection pump
CTD = Cummins Turbo Diesel

VP44 is the $1500 injection pump.
CTD is Cummins Turbo Diesel.

Many more acronyms available in the Tech Facts section, accessible from the link on the main site logo on the top of every page.

I've used Power-Service, Howes Anti-Gel & Lubricty formula, Lucas Upper Cylinder lube, and Stanadyne Performance Formula.

Currently using Stanadyne PF with 6oz booster of Lucas as a booster once a month.

Use what you can find locally, to help keep that injection system alive.

Power-Service usually at most Auto Part stores, and WalMart.

Howes at most Truck stops.

Lucas at most Truck Stops.

Stanadyne at some diesel injection service shops or on-line.

I've used Power Service and Lucas and never really noticed any change in performance but I just started using Howes Meaner Power Cleaner and I must say that I am sold on that stuff. My truck is running better than any time that I can remember. It's sold at Loves Truck Stop.
I think I paid about 12 bucks for a bottle that will treat about 6 tanks of fuel.

I use (white bottle) Power service & Lucas throughout the year. Run a grey bottle of PS through about every six months for a cleaning. The Lucas/PS mix works best for me.

I use power service or stanadyne, depends on when I fuel up. The stanadyne will gell up in real cold weather by itself. Makes it kindof hard to mix when it is gelled up. But if you can keep it warm it is fine after it mixes with the fuel. That is when I use the power service, easier to use when real cold.

I use an additive from a company called Amalgamated Inc
http://www.amalgamatedinc.com/products.htm

This company sells additives to bulk fuel suppliers and large companies with large fleets. They have quite a variety of different types that do different things. Several years ago they put one together for the TDR folks. They call it the TDR Blend( though anyone can order it). It contains everything you need cetane improver, lube, antigel and several other fuel improving additives. It is not listed on their website you must call or write to order so it is not available at your local store. It only comes in 5 gallon pails as they do not really sell retail. A 5 gallon bucket will do about 1900 gallons of fuel. The only real issue with using it is you need to be willing to get it out of a 5 gal pail and put it into small enough amounts to be usable. What I did was go to REI (the sporting goods store) and purchase 6 of the liquid fuel bottles (they are empty and the brand I used was made by MSR but there are others). You cannot use regular plastic bottles as over time the additive will break them down. They come in various sizes and I use the 11oz size and just dont fill them up all the way. I fill them all up at once then when all empty I refill them all again using just a simple plastic hand pump.

Not meaning to bash anyones choice of additives but this is my personal choice and I recommend you contact them and ask them for their independant lab test data, they will send it out to you . It compares their additives to many name brand and not so name brand additives (not comparing what the bottles say but what they actually do to the fuel when used as specified). Very interesting read a lot of technical stuff but they do have easy to read bar charts and graphs as well. Not to say that all the additives out there are bad and dont do what they say but many do not and they rely on misleading labeling and maketing info. Such as lines like "may increase cetane up to 6 points". Though this is being used by them as a marketing tool and many folks dont rely on independant test material given out by the selling company it should be looked at. It is interesting to note that they (amalgamated) do not always come out on top in all catagories in all their additives and or blends. However according to the test propaganda they are the best either in overall performance or value.

Gary Pipenger at Amalgamated will answer any questions you have and is very helpful and replys to email quickly.

I am not affiliated with this company in any way just a satisfied user.
