coolant leak

Hey guys,
The other day I found a puddle of anti-freeze on the ground under the truck. I haven't found where it's coming from. So far I only saw it once. Anybody else haven this problem? If I had to guess I would say it's coming from the back of the engine. By the way were talking about the 06.
Thanks guys,
Topper

Did you have the block heater plugged in by any chance......? On the 06s it was common for a small cooant hose to leak back by and under the turbo when the block heater is used...if thats it you can just tighten up the clamp.

Look here for your leak.

Tighten the hose clamps and it will be good to go until next fall, when it will leak again. When it is time for you to change your coolant, go to your local Dodge or Cummins dealer and get the following updated parts. They will solve your problem. BTW, the p/n shown are Dodge numbers.

Yeah, whenever the topic turns up, it seems everyone who has had this issue has an 06.

Just snugging the clamps down cured mine.

I noticed the same puddle last weekend... rear end of the engine compartment on the passenger's side. I also have a 2006.

I looked at it last night... found the small hose under the exhaust manifold. It looked a little wet, but did not look like there was a hole in the hose. I tightened one end of the hose (the engine had been running). I checked this morning and only had a drop or two. I'll look at it again before starting it tonight.

I just bought this truck last month with 78k on it. What's up with the 2006 model... did I buy a less than steller year model? It seems all the 3rd gen issues I've read about are primarily with the 2006 model.

- I've replaced the thermostat... seems like it would stick shut on cold mornings and would overheat.
- I've checked the little blue injector hose clips... they're tight.
- I've checked the ball joints... one will need replacing before long as the seal is broken.
- I've replaced the front rotors & pads... they were a little thin and the rotors out of round.

This is my first diesel and the truck runs great... I want to keep it that way. I love it!

Is there anything else I should be looking into before a bugetary catastrophy occurs?

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences and expertice with the group. If you post a problem and later discover a solution, please post it for the rest of us!

Thanks again,
John.

Sounds like a small inexpensive list. Especially for a used truck.

This is a problem where the small bypass hose has a tendencey to leak when its freezing or the overnight temps drop. If you have to replace it the ******* is going to want anywhere up to $44. I shopped around and got one for $26. You have to go with a Dodge/Cummins part because the hose is an unusual size.It does not come with clamps for this price.

Just started leaking on mine. Found this thread by googling it. Guess I'm going to Dodge tomorrow morning on my bike.

How hard to change? Can't seem to get it off easily.

Four plus years later... mine still leaks. Not much, but still leaks.

I've had the dealer install the new bypass hose and clamps then later mentioned it again... still leaks.

My sun roof still leaks after multiple dealer visits too, but that's another thread.

John.

^^^^^^ That is why I hate sunroofs, T-tops, and convertibles. They always leak. If they haven't started, they will.
