How to convert gasser cruise control to work with Diesel

During my conversion i wanted to make the factory gasser cruise control work with my diesel, i thought the cables would just interchange. I was wrong, and this is how i went about adapting it to work.

Gas on left with cotter-pin, diesel on right with maze hook

I took both units apart, and laid all parts out in front of where i was sitting.
Be careful with the screws, they strip very easily. I had to take a pick to get the rust out of the screw holes on the one.

Your are going to want to push the spring into back of unit, the one was just laying on one side when i took it apart.

Did you really get around the PCM? Where does the servo's signal come from? I'm trying to cruise up my truck, too. I'm looking into some Dakota stuff, anyone have expirence with something like this? The steering wheel switches and clockspring are supposse to fit? A brick on the go pedal doesn't work very well! Thanks, Artie

He just went to the early vacuum operated system that Ma Mopar has been using for 30 years, in one form or another.

Very simple and basic system that has a million parts available for it.

I just utilized the system already there, i think it may operate off the speed sensor and vacuum. I didn't modify anything, just exchanged one diaphragm for the other.

No speed sensors....Just Vacuum and a 12V power. Once you set the cruise it will send 12V to the servo and then a couple solenoids hold the position. The release is off the brake switch to cut power to the servo.

humm, thats interesting. I was just thinking that going up a hill or down a hill, would increase/decrease you speed if it wasn't monitored.

I've always been curious, how do the cruise control systems on our trucks work?
