I have a blown up D70 in my 'spare' D250. Rather than blow a lot of $$$ on rebuilding it, I can get a '95 Ford 10.25" axle in 3.54 for $150. Slide off drums are a nice perk. I can even change to 3.08 ratio later if I want

Anyone done this? What stumbling blocks did you run into?

 

Ide go Corp 14 bolt off of a Chevy they swap right over and are just easier to deal with

 

measure the space between spring perches

I think fords have that goofy 4 bolt flange where the the driveshaft bolts to the rear,

 

I have a 3.73 14b that needs full going through. I have found the 3.42 and 3.21 ratios before, but very hard to come by. A 3.54 Ford axle with slide off drums and posi for $150 is looking good right now.

EDIT: '95 F250 is a yoke. I used to have such a truck. I know what u mean though, my E350 and a spare superduty diff I have uses a round flange.

 

I believe on the ford you will have to move the spring perches but on the chevy Check Craig's list you could find 1 for that price also less to hassle with JMO

 

Chevy 14 bolts came standard with 3.21 gears too, and 3.42's were common as well.

 

I measured my D250 and the springs measure 43". 73-87 Chevy 3/4ton is 42" if I remember correctly. If that's the case, the springs are going to be pulled together?

3.21 and 3.42 are hard to find for the full-float... I have encountered exactly 4 sets of these in my life - and only 1 set while working at a GM truck autowrecker for 4 years. OTOH, I could build castles with 3.73 and 4.10 sets.

I may have a lead on another Dana 80, although having a driveshaft shortened seems like more of a hassle than moving perches.

Yeah but if you have to bring the spring's in it end's up being a 1/2 inch per side ? and it's not
noticeable
