Why Race??

Well I was heading home from Sears, And a 05+ 2500 cummins Ram pulls up next to me. The 1st thing that goes through my head is NICE truck and the
2nd thing is he has a nice looking GF or wife. Well he wasn't thinking the same thing because as soon as that light went green he was gone.
It was loud and black smoke was everywhere.

Well I went to turn left and low and behold he follows me. at the next light I notice he has some gauges and boom he's gone again. I'm thinking this guy really wants to race. I'm all stock except a cold air intake. I know he's got exhuast. I assume a chip/programmer (Because of gauges and smoke)
and his turbo was singing pretty good so I assume a intake too.
I'm thinking What the hell I'll go for it and see how bad he beats me.
Well we give a go and he gets me but no where near as bad as I assumed he would..
And thats what leads me to this I'm thinking If I would have had my car I would have crushed that guy.( I wish I was in my car)
and with all the stuff done to his he wasn't that much faster. 1/2 -1 full truck thats it.
And I'm always on here hearing a lot of people talk about ricers and imports suck. But most of you that mod your trucks to go fast are in the same boat.
Yeah they can be made to go fast but most off you consider low 14-13 fast?? yeah for a truck thats moving but same goes for a 4cyc honda that runs low 14 -13
Yeah there are some really fast ones but they are few and far between.

I guess I don't understand it.
So to all you that hate imports or so called RICERS
Boy isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.

I know I'll make a lot of poeple mad with this thread but it's my opinion.
And don't think for a second that I don't respect all the crazy fast ones my hats off to ya.

So, who is this thread directed too? Those of us who choose to race or those of us who call imports, ricers?

And you're right, 13-14 second trucks are fast, for a 7,000 lb vehicle.

He probably wouldn't have been racy if you'd been in your car. I know that when I see a diesel pickup with gauges I get the urge to play - because I know a guy with gauges will appreciate what I've done to the truck. I'm sure it was all in good fun.

It probably wouldn't even made a difference if you were in your car. He was just wanting to play around no harm done.

I don't know unless your faster then your sig says. It would be a good race with me getting the edge. because of your 109 mph to my 112mph that says to me that your hooking better at the track with a better 60ft too (4X4) .

So if I hook I could drop another tenth or two. But it would be fun
Like I said my hats off to ya

The REAL question is why oh why did you buy a Mustang???? talk about slow

Actually a ricer that runs a 13 is "awesome" to them. Most ricers are basically stock cars with a pos exhaust and maybe an cai. They run 16-18's and always think they are fast. Those are the real "ricers".

I know that it is all fun and games. A black 03-03 dodge 4door short bed. 2wd. pulled out in front of me and blew a little smoke. And i looked at my friend and said, " lets go fast" LOL. so we went hauling down the road. I went into the other lane and was catching him and he was still putting out a little hase. when i came by him, doing maybe 105. I guess his truck was done. I put on my hazards and we pulled over to talk. All he had was Doc. 100hp injectors.

All fun and games. LOL

Diesels are easy to make quick, and you don't have to spend a lot to make them run low 12's.. Well, except for the trans.. My 06 daily driver is running low 12's at 111mph right now with a towing turbo, 90hp injectors, programmer, and trans.. I know the overhead is off, though it still reads 20-21 mpg in town, and 25-26 mpg running 78. I can enjoy most any vehicle that someone has put effort into.. One exception to the rule is the no muffler with a huge tip on a 17 second 4 banger. This is who I term as a ricer. Why try to wake up everyone in the neighborhood with a car that is anything but impressive in the performance department.. I understand, to each his own.. But, that's just my opinion.. Racing a diesel gives me more enjoyment than racing my fast cars. Drive to the strip, beat most street cars, and drive home getting better fuel economy than those that weigh in at half as much.. In all reality, we're all probably just a little nuts for dumping our hard earned money into something that will never do much more than give us an occassional rush.

For the same reason I raced a modded crotch rocket bike yesterday. He got his weight over the front and spun his 9" slick clear through the intersection. It was about then that my turbo finally spooled. He destroyed me - probably a high 10s to 11sec bike. But this is the great part. After he had gone a little more than a quarter mile or so, he let off and glanced over his shoulder. Then he lifted his visor and looked back again...a little longer this time. You could just tell that he couldn't believe how close to him I was. Not that I was really close, but I think he expected me to be way behind him and I wasn't.

My wife just looked over at me and shook her head.

I get twice and sometimes 3 times the spectators coming over to look my 12 second 7000 pound diesel truck over compared to the blah humbug just another fast fixed up car that I used to race. I've bracket raced and ran the heads-up classes for over 20 years and get much more enjoyment out of my 7000 pound truck that I ever did a car. There are tons of cars at the track on any given weekend. Especially F-bodies. Very seldom more than 3 or 4 fast diesels.

BLACKBIRD:

I can see your point to some degree, but the attitude you speak of can come from both sides on this racing issue. At our local drag strip where I live here in eastern N.C., there are ALOT of the import or "ricer" cars. Some of these guys are pretty nice and some of them are not. Some of them actually stand in the lines going to the staging lanes and see our diesel pickups and immediately begin talking "trash" about us or our trucks for no real apparent reason other than we drive diesels! I realize that some of them don't like our black smoke and that is their perogative. But, I feel we have the right to be there just as much as they do. Personally, I have no problem with any of the imports or import performance dealers. In fact one local import performance dealer has treated my Son and I very well on NOS refills and some parts.
With that in mind, I feel it is much harder to get a 6,500lb. diesel pickup to run 13-14's than it is an import that weighs maybe half or less than that!
Now getting a 6,500 lb. Dodge CTD to run in the 11-12's is even harder and I know because it took me a long time to get there!
