Stupid newbie puller mistake

Got to hook up again last Saturday night. I maxed out on the 8500 lb weight limit thanks to my brother-in-laws JD suitcase weights. Kept my same tires Bridgestone Dueler AT's but let more air out. Thanks for previous suggestions about weight and tires too.

Had a great hook and built speed without any tire spinning. Going along great up to the 250' point. Suddenly felt/heard something that didn't sound right. Glanced at the EGT gauge and it's pegged at 1500. Let off the fuel for a split second, determined everything was A OK and then tried to get back into it but without much success. Got it out to 272' for 13th out of 20.

Went back and watched and listened to the video and it was the dang weight hitting the front of the sled. I had enough speed that it shook the truck and scared me into letting out of it. The flagman couldn't figure out why I let off but said I had a great run going. So much for a rookie mistake. Met my usual three goals though: 1) don't break anything, 2) don't finish last and 3) have fun. Just thought some of you more experience pullers would get a chuckle out of this. Did find out that a lot of guys run BFG Mud Terrains around here with good results.

Just trying to figure out how your weight hit the sled?
I see you have a plow, you should built a weight rack that attaches to your plow mount, that away you can get that weight out front.

Still pretty Decent Paul, Atleast next time you'll know exactly what that sound is. Did you get your 435's installed yet?

Kennedy - ***** is right. It was the sled weight coming forward and hit the end. I was kind of worried that I was about to blow something up and we were two hours from home and it was 10:00 PM. My wife wouldn't take kindly to a phone call then. I'm rigging up a rack for the front now but most of the stock pulls around here won't allow any weight up front, only in the bed.

***** - I'm hoping the 435's will be here this week. I'm going to hold on the twins for the time being as I want to do more pulls and most won't allow twins. I'm probably going to upgrade the HTB2 62/12 to the 66/14. I think with the new injectors I'll have enough fuel even with the AT.

I'm suprised you didn't break anything getting out of it, and back in it..

If you are going to pull alot, get some traction bars.
Dont worry about the EGT gauge. Letting off and getting back into it will break things.

I'll consider myself lucky on not breaking anything. Next pull in August so I've got some time to get some things ready and give it another try. I appreciate the constructive feedback so I don't make the same mistake twice. Next time I don't look at the gauges

If you have time to look at the gauges, you're going too slow! Just kidding! It's a rush that you don't get just by standing on the side, good luck on your next attempt!

Actually, to relate on this issue, The first pull of the year here for me { county fair pulls}, the rules stated, no extra wieght other then in the box, had to be securred down, and NO traction bars, and exhaust had to be exited out the back, side, or straight up and had to be behind the cab, my stacks were fine, but I thought about the guys running thru the hood!, also, I was leery on pullin there, since I didnt get my trac bars made yet, but was glad I didnt have them on because of the rules, but, Im not real sold on pulling without them installed either! got six place out of 20, but out of my stupidity!
