Second pull- need some help
Pulled last night over in Chestertown MD, and I ve got a few questions. Decided to pull in high range 2nd gear, because everyone going way down the track was getting lots of wheel speed. Built about 12 lbs of boost and eased into so as to prevent losing traction. Well, I hardly started moving, so, thinking I was spinning, let off the fuel a little and then eased back into it, and GRADUALLY gained some speed as I moved down the track. I was moving way too slow for the gear I was in and everyone said I wasn't spinning, I just didn't have any wheel speed. I glanced down at the RPMs and I'm almost positive it was just over 3k right at the end. Now, it seems like the only thing could be that my tranny was slipping. I don't have the temp gauge in yet, so not sure how hot it got, but I smelled the fluid this morning and it smelled a little burnt. The tranny is a built Goerend w/ billet input, laminated flexplate, triple lock converter w/ 15 blade stator. Only been in the truck since about February.
Orrr, I suppose it could be possible I misread the rpms, and I was bogging the engine and not making enough power to pull in high range. I DID pull it down into 1st gear about 150 feet into the pull. The engine did get pretty hot, and now the temp gauge isn't working.
Any thoughts, suggestions? I know I probably should have pulled in low range. Thanks - Josh

I was there last night too. I cooked my trans and called Dave right away. He said that I should be pulling in 4 low in drive with the od off. When it shifts into 2nd to lock the converter in to prevent it from getting so hot. I dont know if you have a lock up switch but Dave recomended it to me to be using one. At least yours still moves. Hope that helps some.
So, how do I tell if I did any damage to the tranny? Like I said, there's a smell to the fluid. Still red though and it's driving fine. Should I put it on a dyno and see if it's slipping? There's a lifetime warranty on Dave's triple lock converter and a 100k mi on the tranny, so hopefully it'll be covered if theres a problem.
