Raced'er tonight
i haven't had a chance to hit a 1/4 mile strip yet, i did do 9.04 in the 1/8th but i still had a problem shifting into 4th on that run. i have come to the conclusion that stick shifts and dual disk clutchs are not really a good drag strip set up. but heck neithier is a 4x4 dually ex cab.

When you manually remove the transfer case out of 4X4, it is out, and not pulling at all. The front axle will remain engaged, but not in a operational mode. As soon as the "tension" is taken off the front end, it will be released, and all is back to normal. The internals of the transfer case, says when you push the lever and take it out, it's out.
Darren has started to kick his out of 4 wheel drive at 1/8 track and you can see the truck shift its stance when all power is shifted to the rear wheels. He launches is 4 wheel and finishes in 2. A 10.30 in the quarter says it works.

For automatic trucks, it's actually harder on the transfer case by shifting out of 4x4 after the launch. The problem is that forcing the transfercase into 2x4 without introducing some slack in the drivetrain causes the mode synchro and teeth to stay together while the mode shift fork is forcing them apart.
