Pulling with a standard, gear?

Hey guys, I am a new Cummins owner and have a question about sled pulling with it. I have 3.73 gears and a 6 speed tranny, what gear should I start out in at the pull? I've never had a truck with this much low end power and I am afraid that 1st or 2nd gear might be too low. Thanks for any advice.

3 or 4th in 4x4 Lo range. 400hp and above go 4th low. 500hp and above try out 2nd gear HI range.

are you completely stock??

1st is way too low for anything other than pulling trailers
2nd is a nice choice but you'll have limited wheel speed
3rd is a better choice, good wheel speed but you'll probably be looking at replacing a clutch soon after.

I don't care how far I go, as long as I get past the Powerstroke that is pulling tonight. I think the truck will do fine. I'll post up after I pull.

Nope, just 37's. :-) I don't want it too big. I'm going to try and fit them without any more lift, I just have a 2 inch spacer up front now. If they don't fit (and I hope they don't), my wife gave me the go-ahead to get the Skyjacker 5 inch kit.

Well, I didn't do too good compared to the others tonight. I did pretty well for a stock *** truck, about 200 feet. I pulled 4 low, 3rd gear, had it pegged at 3 grand comfortably and had good speed. I went against another truck just like mine but with the TST chip, new injectors, a new exhaust, and some other stuff I'm sure. He had a huge edge over me, plus better tires and about 900 lbs more weight. I weighed in at 7,086 and everybody else was just under the 8 grand mark. Oh well, I learned a lot and will be back next time with some mods of my own. I was the only one there that was not chipped, everybody else at least had a chip.
