My 1st PULL... Please Critique!

I finally got that first hook under my belt! I was pretty excited and nervous at the same time. I dint leave the line hard on the go pedal because I was afraid of breaking something. My first impression was "WOW this thing pulls smooth!" (I thought there would be more jerking and hoping.)

Upon weighing in I found that my truck was a little on the light side... 7028 with a cooler full of Ice and drinks in the bed! I thought my truck was much heavier and I didnt have any weight to add so I just ran light. All the other drivers were adding/removing weight to get as close to 8K as possible. You know like they had done this before!

Anyway heres the clips of both pulls... the video isnt great but you get the picture!

Afterwards the flagman said I was letting off too soon. He said I could've pulled another foot if I had stayed in it, but I didnt want to break anything!

ENJOY!

Josh, No body would be ashamed of those for there first pulls, and you have a good looking truck too. next time hold the pedal to the floor till the flag man drops the flag. make some rear blocks if you don't have them or the rules allow it, it will save your rear drive shaft and make it pull more.

bring it to NC sometime

Thanks, I wont be pulling this truck much. I am building another truck to beat on. But you are right, I should have stayed in it a little longer! I saw the other guys using blocks and wished I had done more homework.

Maybe if I had made weight, added some blocks and my truck wasnt defueling I could have done better... Oh well I had fun!

Having fun is what it's all about, You are doing the right thing to build up a separate truck for pulling, I know guys that wouldn't agree but in my opinion if you don't have something else to drive to work you should not pull your truck, because before long something is going to break. As far as the blocks, when I started I couldn't understand why guys want to spend tons of money on parts but wouldn't spend any time on the FREE upgrades you could do yourself and then ***** about cheating on the guys that did.

Looks like you had a good time. I didn't make it down there this time.

On a side note I was behind you the other day on I75 and Gibtown Dr. Thanks for not smoking me. That is a nice looking truck and it sounds good too.

also get some track bars I used top links from a tractor 3-point hitch and some heavy pipe, thats what lot of guys use and try to sell to you for about 10X what it cost. it will stop axle wrap and lots of hopping also make some blocks but a lot require 1" of free travle. also make an adjustable hitch so you can set it as high as legal usualy 26" I used 3/4" plate to make the ring and has worked fine for 4 hooks and cost $10 and the bars cost $40 each. Good pull and nice truck.

With bars and blocks you can hit a huge dirt mound on the track from the guy befor you that didnt git bladed down and not brake anything.

here is a better pull you can see with the blocks that the rear of the truck dose not squat and it picks up on the front of the sled and helps you get moveing down the track. but it rides like a tank.

Thanks for the advice guys! Everyone I met at the event was nice and offered to help. Good group of folks to be a part of and made me feel at home. I was nervous and didnt want to break my daily driver.

1stgen545, I am using an adjustable pintle hitch and it is almost right on. Thanks for the ideas though!

JTA, give me a wave next time! I live in Riverview off of Symmes and 301. Give me a shout sometime and we can talk shop... 813-477-5953 My friends probably get tired of my rambling about the truck but they just dont understand! LOL

Good deal just wanted you to get all the good out of it you could. I see lots of guys using realy low hitches straight off of the bumper it only takes a little $ or time to get a good hitch and it can take you 20 + feet becose it lifts the front of the sled and you can get more ground speed befor the pan drops. Anyway good pull and realy nice truck just keep it WOT till the flag even if you have almost stoped.

One of the biggest advantages you can have is weight. If you were 1000 lbs light then you need to get 1000 lbs added. Get about 9 tractor weights and more beer in the cooler(for after your pull) maybe some tools. Put the tractor weights on your floor boards(not under your feet). Im the one that told you to let off when the sled stopped you because that is when you can break. I did see you letting off a little early but your first time thats ok. One more bit of advice, when filming continue until the announcer reads the distance.
See you at the December 1st pull ?
