Yet another truck for y'all to critique.

I know i have done this a lot but I want to make sure I get a good truck. This one is straight from Texas so its rust free. 225k with an auto trans. After market rims and tires. Would i have to worry about then trans going out like the 2nd gens? Is this a good price, I want to talk them down a bit and see how low they would go. It has been for sale for a long time so they might want to just get rid of it quick. I think it would be a good platform for a few easy mods and I will def. put on stacks soon and maybe some new tires. If any one has a pic of a 1st gen ext cab with stacks i would love to see what it looks like. All comments are good comments.

Rust free, yeah right, more like a good paint job and body work. Grill is aftermarket. It has gauges, probly a Banks turbo kit. Wastegate exhaust housing. 'Possibly' a pac brake of some sort. Note the vacuum type tubing going over to the exhaust area. These are the type of trucks 'dealers' sell all the time for that HIGH dollar price. Turd underneath, but SWEET new paint job AND shiney new wheels bling bling!!!! Some folks like that though, good looks on the outside and new wheels!!!

It could be a great one, but I suggest buying a truck off an owner and not a dealer. You'll get just as good quality, but won't pay high dollar.. at times that is.

Must most definately not a great price. $6-$7k I say is going rate for a decent deal. Keep looking.

Take a look at that white/silver W250 in the classifieds, THAT looks much, much better than the one you're looking at, in your price range too.

I talked to these guys around 6 months ago on this truck, they wanted 8900 then and the lowest they would go was 8200, but they do normally get pretty decent stuff there and they know diesels pretty well

Ok guys I called the dealer about the truck. First he didn't know what was all done to the engine, also when I asked him how low he would go on the price he said " How much do you have" and " I have it priced very good and low right now". Not realy dure how to take that but I think it is just way too much for a 92 with 220k miles one it, no matter how nice it is. I guess my search is still on. Looking at 2 98 12v right now but I would love to have a 92 or 93 DRW 350.

Don`t "settle" for a 2nd gen if you really want a 1st (and who would`nt?) . Looks like a nice rig, but it`s hard to tell just from pics.

I bought a second gen to replace my first gen. Ended up keeping the first gen and selling the second gen. No comparison

well don't have to worry about that truck any more. Called about the 93 in the classifieds with 98k miles. Sweet truck, talked to the owner for 40 min. about it and I am going to go pick it up saturday! Can't wait, great paint, great runing gear and very well taken care of. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes and will have pics. to come.

Great...Anger does not even get close to describe how I feel right now. I was all set to go pick up my new first gen tomorrow. Look in my e-mail and, whats this, an email from the owner saying he sold the truck. Great that just puts a great mark on my week. It stinks when I have the money to buy a truck and I either get screwed over by the owner or just can't find one. Search is on for the millionth time.

man, that sucks.

my buying situation was somewhat frustrating too. southern california is NOT the place to try and buy a 1st gen CTD. there are 94-up's everywhere, but nary a nice first gen at a good price. i drove a total of about 2000 miles before i had the truck at home in frond of my house. It ended up being in San Luis Obispo at a 5 star dodge dealership about 300 miles from home. Cole Chrysler Dodge. while i do believe i paid a hefty price, i did not have many other options to choose from. i am not unhappy at the price i had to pay, but i think if i lived in the midwest or south or even central CA, i would have had a much wider and cheaper selection of trucks to look at. in the end i paid above blue book. the mileage is higher than i wanted (180k), but it is a much cleaner first gen than any of the ones i looked at before. it has been well taken care of and i think it will last me at least the 5 years it will take me to pay it off! if i didnt have a gross polluting gasser with less than a month left in registration and a job that requires that i have a vehicle then i would have been able to seriously wait it out until i found that low mileage beauty. at least you are able to play the truck finding game slowly, in the end your money will go farther. either way, i'm happy with my truck and i guess thats all that matters.

I can vouch for that. I started looking for a first gen about 3 years ago. I didn't look hard, but I kept my eyes open. I found her in November 05. A 91 w250 standard cab long box with 20, 722 miles on her for $6500 canadian dollars. You just can't be in a hurry.

Bosshawg:
I am the original owner of a 92 D350 Club Cab 2/wd auto trans. Califorfnia truck, never dirven in the snow/salt. Truck is cherry, no rust, no door dings everything works. About 128k miles. I just moved to Illinois from San Diego and pulled a 20' cargo trailer, like a dream. New Moog ball joints, brakes and good tires. Truck is stock except Banks quick turbo and Banks exhaust, and k&n Air filter. This is a one of a kind truck. I just bought a 2006 Mega. If you are interested I will try to get some pictures to you.
Let me know.
