Gypsyman - great looking bars!

They don't have any length adjustability, do they?

What's the reason for a front shackle mount with bushings instead of a heim joint?

that front mount looks weak with u-bolts over the frame. change that and they would be nice

Gypsyman,
For the sledpullers I would suggest heims (not a must though). I would also suggest a solid shackle up front for the sledpullers instead of the pivoting unit.

And at least a 1.5" od bar (it looks like 1.5"?)if not a 1.75" od bar.

I think they look great though. Bolt on set is a huge bonus!! Good work.

All good input guys and greatly appreciated. We're shooting for as much functionality as possible without killing the street manners. We have beta units going out to some heavy hitters next week so we'll see how they do as they sit.

The right kind of traction bars should make drivability better.

My bars are 3" steel with the hole in the middle only about 1" big, I don't remember what schedule that is. My point is my bars don't effect the driveability at all.

So what are the benefits/disadvantages of shackle mounting the front of the bars versus using heim joints?

I shackle mounted the fronts to allow rearward travel as the spring flattens under compression.

The front heim mount on Gypsyman's bars will only see loading that is perpendicular to the frame, or parallel to the U-bolts, not forward or rearward. Basically this ladder design works as a torque arm and the idea is to prevent the axle from wrapping in the springs by keeping the front pivot of the arm from rising. As already mentioned, the shackle provides this same effect without compromising street manners by allowing the spring to compress/lengthen without binding the rear suspension. A single bar design forces the bottom of the rear axle to follow a certain arc. If not designed correctly the rear suspension will bind during high articulation.
