good day went bad

well today at the track the truck ran 12.70 with a crappy 60 ft at 1.92. then all hell boke loose. the last run of the day i decide to spray a little nos and pop goes the head gasket. freakin coolent everywere. i should of oringed the head in the first place but live and learn. ill be pullin the head to get her oringed in the morning. is there a better gasket than the stock 3rd gen? i know the 2nd gens somtimes run a marine gasket. anyway goes to show if you wanna play u gotta pay.

as far as I know you can't o-ring with the 3rd gen gasket, you have to use the 2nd gen version and they seem to hold up with the rings and studs.

I think it has to do with the way the gasket is made, being multi-layer or somthing. The second gen gasket is a direct replacement except for a couple of coolant passages which are easy to cut. Whoever is doing your o-ring job probably know's what you need. It's no big deal just a different part #.

the sealing area of the third gen gasket is not round, o-rings are. studs may well take care of your problem but i think i would change over to the other style with o-rings.

the head was studded. its been studded since i got the twins put on 7 months ago. i thought i was done tourqueing them down but maybe they needed 1 more time. would i be safe to replace the head gasket and just keep it studded or should i try to do the oringing with the 2nd gen gasket.

You might as well o-ring while the head is off if for no other reason than piece of mind.
