Final weight of a sled when it drops

When the sled drops what is the total weight you are pulling? I figure it varies with different sleds. But a general number is fine.

I've heard from 20,000-40,000lbs...but you gotta remember that its also dead weight riding the "sled" on the ground and not rolling weight like a 20,000lbs trailer

The sled itself weighs 20-45k depending on the class/operator. The multiplication factor due to resistance puts it somewhere around 120-150k. I think Justin has the math figures for the actual weight.

Yeah the 2 posts above have it nailed.

Although Dan, just because we are pulling what amounts to around 100k lbs behind our trucks does not mean are hitches are rated for that!

Still, that's pretty impressive for a factory hitch!

your tires would spin, your clutch would smoke or your auto would stall before your hitch got the driving force needed to move 100K lbs of dead weight....

4'??? You wouldn't be exaggerating a bit would you??

Justin (PourinDiesel) is right, the sled can weigh up to 50K, but with the pan down, the weight will feel like at least 3 times that...I've heard more when they start putting the spikes down
