Cummins vs Viper

Searched for Gus Farmer and the li'l red Ram that dusted the Viper , found only one thread and several responses - who's got the deep skinny on that run - cameraman got tunnel-vision at the finish, so couldn't tell who took home the ticket - couldn't find much about the truck, driver, etc - typically, Viper owners\admirers say no way - Viper was 2.0 r\t, Ram 0.5 r\t on the boards - Viper jumped the Ram by est 0.5sec

TIA

vipers have always been overrated. the early vipers would only run mid 13s in the quarter. a stock LS1 camaro will do that. so will a stock 03/04 cobra even quicker. that big bad V-10 has always been a joke in my eyes when small V-8s will eat it that is sad. the newer vipers are fast but 80k. you could invest 10k in an 03/04 cobra and eat any viper there is.

The late 90's Vipers ran Low 12's, the earlier ones ran high 12's low 13's, the new ones are about as fast as the late 90's, If I remember right the 98 was the fastest year, 1/4 mile time and top speed etc...But It is pretty sad that you could take many cars, invest that much money and make them smoke a Viper. I think its just the name and saying "I own a viper" I heard the hoods alone are like $10k ...haha?

the rear suspension on vipers makes it almost impossible to hook up at the track

I've seen many Viper vids of street Vipers doing less than 9sec 1/4's with much less spent on them than I have spent on my truck. Twin turbos, cam, blueprinted, built tranny, custom programming, suspension and drag slicks....sounds familiar. Go to youtube and search fastest viper....3 seconds faster than any streetable Cummins. ks

Unless they came out with a new kit, that twin turbo kit is not exactly cheap car + kit is well over 100k, I'd imagine one of our trucks with that kind of money would be pretty crazy....

well ive never had the desire to own a viper. they are like a vette. talked up and there not fast. I had an 01 ford lightning that was stock. it would outrun a stock 2002 auto corvette at the time. there again I would rather have an LS1 camaro anyday over either one also. same powerplant as the 98-02corvette for half the price or less.

Who is that one company that builds the crap out of Vipers?

There was an SRT-8 Jeep Grand Cherokee beating up on a SRT-10 Ram at the track this past Saturday...

Vet's and Viper's stock are not dragsters. Never have been. They are good road course cars, when compare to a truck . From what little I've seen of GT races the Viper's have a problem here as well, brakes. They are too light for the engine mass and heatup in a hurry.

at IRP I watched a ford lightning eat an SRT-10 in the 1/4 mile over and over again. the srt was wheel hopping and banging gears to a mid 14. the lightning was laying down low 13s. the lightning is half the price too. my truck is dodge but its cummins powered. not a V-10.

I think the biggest problem for them is that for some reason, Until the new body style Dodge never put abs on them....so they were decent in every category then braking comes around and they did horrible. But I think that Hennessey made a TT kit that put out around 1k hp and was clocked in the 1/4 at high 9's with slicks and mid 10's with street tires, if you go to their website to of the page it has a lot of listings on it if anyone is interested.

If you do the u-tube search you will find it is not Hennessey that makes a 1000+hp viper....any good Mopar race shop will do up a set of twins for about the same price as a set of any truck twins. Kerry
