Criticize my pull (video)
I entered the truck into a pull at the rodeo arena last month and really had higher expectations out of it. It ran great, but I really expected more smoke and more than 207 feet. I know I would have gone further had the track not been in such bad shape, but still. I felt like I had a good take off, good momentum, and I should have been able to get a little further down the track after the sled hit the dip, but maybe I'm asking too much.
Also, I could only build up about 12 lbs of boost. It's hard to slip the dual disk but I tried, I just couldn't get any higher than 12 lbs. I was told to launch at closer to 20 lbs.
So watch this and tell me what you think. Teach me!

Edit: My power adders are Hot Juice stacked with EZ, FASS 150 gph pump, AFE intake and MBRP 4 inch dual exhaust with cat delete. I don't have the fuel pressure gauge hooked up yet so I'm not sure what the pressure was, but I really just don't see the 150 gph pump having any problem keeping up with the boxes.

Danny,
Dont worry about boost. That is a mistake.
Just put your foot the floor and maintain redline while slipping your clutch until you know its lit up and the tires are starting to bite then gradually let it out the rest of the way.
Watch my pulling video to see what I am talking about.
Another thing.....GET TRACTION BARS!! and re-enforce the rear with blocks, airbargs, timbrens...something.
You should also look into hanging some weight.

Thanks guys. I do plan to get airbags for the rear. We can't hang weight, at least not now... maybe they'll change the rules next year. The diesel classes here are still really small. I plan on putting ARB's in both diffs to help with traction, it makes a huge difference in my other truck. I'll just try to get into more pulls next year and get some practice, it's hard to slip that clutch.
I just can't do it man! I've tried and tried... sometimes I just sit in a parking lot and rev it up and try to slip it. I cannot get it to slip at all... well, it does a little, but just a little. Once it grabs, I'm gone. In the pull, I wanted to let out slowly and not just dump it like I did, but that's what happened. It's probably just user error but I simply can't find any slip. I have the hydraulic upgrade if that makes any difference... should make it easier to slip, I would think, because I have more control over the clutch. I dunno.

Okay... after hooking to the sled, I pull forward and get the slack out, 4 low, 3rd gear, clutch pedal pushed all the way in and I rev the motor and hold it, then slowly let out on the clutch pedal. I can feel it grab a little but it's not fully engaged and I start seeing the boost build up a little bit. With the RPM's still high, I just let out of the clutch as slow as I can. When it grabs, it's ***** to the wall, as you can see in the video. It wasn't like I started rolling and then fully engaged the clutch, it was like it's barely slipping enough to build some boost, then it's gone. Smoke blows, tires spin, truck moves.

I agree with PD. You need to be in at least 4 lo. My questionis how many miles are on the clutch? I know mine was very grabby to begin with. The more miles and pulls I got on it the easier it is to slip. We have the same clutch and I can leave the line at 40+psi.
Danny...bro.....trust me all you can do especially with the electronically controlled "Over Valved"
trucks is put your right foot on the floor....leave it there....and slowly let the left foot up off the floor. Trust me the clutch WILL slip!
If you stepped up to 4.10's then you could probably do 2nd Hi Danny.
Thanks guys. I'll try 4th gear low but 3rd gear sure felt good. I thought about bumping down to some 33's but for now I will just run the 37's until I start taking this more seriously. I only plan to do a few pulls a year, but you know how that goes. You start out with one or two pulls locally, then the next thing you know, you're a Mark Harris.
Perhaps I didn't have the skinny pedal all the way down. It's been about a month so I really don't remember, I thought I had it hammered but maybe not. The clutch is very new, I actually had it put in about two days before that pull so it was even harder. It's getting easier to use but still very grabby.
So why would 2nd gear high range be more desireable, just more wheel spin? Same with 4th gear low range? I haven't tried the others but 3rd gear low just felt like it was right for the overall gear ratio, the momentum was good. I wish I could find a 50,000 lb tree or something to tie onto and drag across a field a few times. I need to play around, but there is no practice with the sled. Maybe this spring I can drive to a dyno/sled pull event somewhere and do 5 or 6 runs, trying different gears.
