Atlanta Photos

We had a professional photo crew at Atlanta taking shots of all of the action. You can see a lot of good low res photo's on their site.

Any of the racers that want to purchase photo's, I would encourage you to contact EDA Photo as they can put multiple smaller photo's in with the main photo. (Example small burnout inside main launch etc.)

The quality is designed for Poster size prints so they are also available.

Visit the site at www.edaphoto.com and look under the online store for Hayes Mopar.

They do have some diesel pics scatters but most I found were under "diesels, timed runs, and exhibition areas.

Enjoy

Not Your Father's Cummins

OK, The wheelbase is about right,...but they forgot the 8 foot bed.

Another "Slow-Smokey Diesel truck".......NOT

Why It's NOT Recommended To Shift Into Reverse above 120 MPH

Big Tires + Short Wheelbase + Diesel Power = One WILD Ride

Need MORE "Cowbell"?

Dat Thing Got A HEMI In It?

NICE looking Even if it AIN'T a Dodge

This picture just brought up many questions in my head.

I see a clutch can in front of the Lenco.

How are they loading the motor in order to spool the turbos??? I wouldnt think that they would be doing it with the clutch.

Yup, I rode down on Thursday with Dennis (Rattlinram) and he let me stay in his camper.
(Most comfortable Hide-a-bed I've EVER slept in)
Dennis is a pretty good cook too.
PapaSmurf's rig is in the next-door campsite.
Came back on Sunday.

Yeah,....It's Got A HEMI In It.
I'll bet he gets asked that same question about a thousand times a day.

What clutch are you running? Im assuming its a triple?

Slipping the clutch like that must build some insane heat, and thats before the pass even begins. How well does it hold during the run.

If I may ask, what RPM do you shift at?

I think that you were originally running a converter, why the switch to the clutch?

LOL I can't believe you didn't say hi! Or maybe you did and I was busy screaming at the nitro cars that kept oiling the track. Anyways, a very good event and I had a blast!

11" triple disk pulling clutch.
Wears about .0010 off the discs each pass according to the crew chief.
Very little slippage and some of that is from the apply clutches in the transmission.
Shift points change per track, anywhere from 4700 to 5200.
8.25 with a converter
7.55 first full pass with clutch
We switched because we weren't getting the power to the ground. Our best efficiency with a converter was 70% and we ran on the governor the whole way down the track.

I didn't cook,,,,, Shovelhead did.
The difficult part was keeping him awake! Thought I was going to have to duct-tape his head to the headrest in the truck to keep him from getting whiplash when on the road!

Pulling clutch you say, I figured you would be running something like a Pro-Mod type clutch, something designed for drag racing that is put in front of lencos all the time.

Wow, only 70% efficiency on the converter. Who was building your converters? I work in a race car shop and we have 3 customers with converters in pro-mod cars, one of the car owners owns a converter shop and he builds all of the converters for the cars. With the coverter thats in his car right now he has about 3.5% slip in high gear and thats with at least 2200HP.

Mike, now that is just funny right there!

RJ, it was Marty Chance, and the pro mod guys that run the converter we had aren't even close to the amount of torque we have and they usually run 10K RPM.
By the time Marty would get the converter tight enough to hold the power, it was too tight to light the turbos.
We tried a fancy Boninfante 10" Big Stand Ti clutch, with the same result, slippage. It's for sale, so if you have a customer looking for one, let me know-brand new floaters and disks.
Clutches belong behind a diesel anyway, right?
