96 dodge build

hey everyone,
im in Iraq on my first tour and its freekin hot. whell i have some money put away so that when i get back i can drop about 20 to 25k into the truck i want it to be a daily driver but also be able to go wheelin and kick some *** up on the track. not to mentin the tug o war every once an awhile. but for the most part my truck is bone stock and so i was wondering what you would do. whats going to be the best setup for the price between engin and transmition i know that the moneys going to go quick but it should be fun.

thanks

You don't say if you got an auto or manual?

You need gauges first and foremost, then if it was me and I had that kind of budget I'd throw this at it...

HTT 64/14/71 Turbo
SBC DD Clutch OR a built auto tranny
4,000 rpm GSK
AFC Mods
DDP Stage 4 injectors
FASS/Airdog or other similar lift pump upgrade
BHAF or other air filter upgrade
4" HX40 style downpipe and exhaust
Throw a little timing at it...
EDIT: Have the pump sent out for calibration and balancing

Leave that fuel plate in there for now, maybe throw a valet switch in it to help out. That should get you to the edge of a daily driver. That turbo wouldn't be too laggy, but I wouldn't go much bigger depending on how much you want it to be "streetable".

Thanks for being in Iraq and putting up with crap.

ya its an auto tranny so i was looking at eather a DTT or an ATS full Transmition but i cant decide wich one is better and i was hopeing for a twin turbo setup of the budget allowed just so i could get some diecent boost with as little lag as possible

Twins are great, but if you plan on hooking to the sled it's going to limit you on where/when you can hook. Most places only allow singles. But if the sled is out, then heck ya, go for twins. I don't have an auto, so hopefully someone with that kind of experience will come along and help you spend your money.

I highly recommend installing traction bars to put all that power to the ground and prevent carnage-inducing wheel hop due to spring wrap:

For 20k you can do a lot
Fully built AT= ~7K (I like georand)
A built pump= ~1500 and would flow ~550cc's
Head work= ~1500
Cam= ~750
Custom Twins 3000-6000
lift pump ~600
IMO this would be a sweet 600+ RWHP DD.

Sorry should have specified. The built pump would be sending you pump it to get built.

traction bars are a must if your going that much hp and going to be pulling.....it sounds like alot but you might want to throw a dana 80 axle under that dude...i know that sucks.....you can go crazy with power but you gotta have the driveline to back it up espically pulling with a 12 valve. people over look the drive line and it is very frustrating breaking alot not that im speaking expirence or anything again thank you for what your doing for our country

With that kinda of money, and the fact that you dont mention sled pulling (no special rules to adhere to) I would definitely do a twins set up, it will take some tuning but i think with the fueling on a 12v that a single turbo will either be too large to spool for daily driving or it will be too small and you will have big time EGT and smoke issues.

Also on the transmission, Dusty Hawk at HTS build one hell of an auto, ridden in one and watched a few others in action at the strip and WOW, his full billet race set-up is AWESOME. also seems to be a little cheaper, my buddy got a 48re done for his 05, billet shafts all the way thru, ready to install...and it was $6100 shipped.
