That 2nd pull, the gear you ran was fine. The first pull you could have ran a higher gear. You werent loading the motor enough. The 2nd pull looked good though.

you put up the $1800 for the new clutch and ill run a bigger gear...if i ran the wrong gear on that first pull then why did rampage, who has pulled for 2-3 years, has double my hp, and the same tranny use the same gear i did? wouldn't he know to pull a higher gear?

you dont understand you cant just run a bigger gear, do you pull with a manual? if not then let someone who has done it answer.

2nd gear hi range was just fine according to that video and track condition etc.

Running the SBG is saved for only when the moon and stars align.

i figure 2nd high for the loose tracks, if i get on a really tight sticky track then go to 4th low.

im so hooked im looking for my donor truck now to start piecing together a true puller.

Man your lucky they have pulls around you! I have wanted to pull since the first time I visited this site, but they are few and far between in my area Pulls look real good though, the 1st track ws way too dry, and the second was good. In the classifieds dodgboy59td is selling off the parts from his retired puller for CHEAP you should check it out...

there was nothing he could do at that first pull. i pulled there too and they used a 18ft long chain so the sled never loaded the truck, hell ya could have probably ran road gear and still not have loaded the motor. runnin a big gear there would have been hard on the clutch because you were dragging the weight so starting off would have been hard on it

You said you were rebuilding the clutch anyways... Whats the big deal? If you dont want to be hard on the clutch, then you better not be hooking it to a sled.... And it would be my guess that RAMpage has a few more useable RPM than you have, enabling him to run a lower gear, and still be fueling hard. And no, I dont pull with a manual, but I have pulled more times than you have, and watched countless pulls. And I can tell you this. The trucks that are wound up into the defueling point all the way down the track, dont win. I WILL agree that was a heck of a crappy track, and sled, and there wasnt a lot you could do about it. But in my opinion, when the track is so slick like that, you can usually run a gear up and do a little better because of the extra wheelspeed. You stated you wanted input in the title of the thread, and I was giving you my opinion. You came back with a hateful reply for some reason or the other.... I guess from now on, if you dont want input, then dont ask for it. Or at least dont get hateful when someone tells you that you did good, but suggests trying something.

I take useful advice, but I don't take stupid advice from someone who has never tried it and is basically telling me they think I should do something. Especially when i know that all its going to do is destroy a clutch.

My DD will last all thru this season of pulling so long as I don't do something stupid, like run a bigger gear. But my objective here is to make it to the end of the season, not burn it up at the first pull because someone who has never pulled with a manual tells me try a bigger gear.

Please, stay out of my thread, I'll get plenty of input from those with a 5600.

FYI, the truck that won at that particular pull was a 7.3 with a few minor mods, huge tires, and weighed just under 10000lbs. That truck didn't have much wheel speed at all compared to TJ, rampage or dzlfarmboy. It just had more traction, and i don't think any of the three trucks above had a chance really. They completely overpowered the track. More wheelspeed prob wouldn't have done much. Kinda like when you spin out on ice, standing on the pedal harder (i.e. more wheel speed) doesn't help a bit.

It was the crappiest track i've ever seen, by far.

Whats your deal dude? I highly doubt taking your two sentences of advice on what gear to use is going to automatically make him a professional puller, or do better on any given track, right?

I don't think it's worth getting all worked up about, is it?

Im sorry, but if someone cant respect me for my opinions, then I have a hard time respecting them back. I simply suggested that he could have probably ran a higher gear to get a little more wheelspeed, and then he fired back at me like I was a complete idiot for suggesting anything to him. No, I dont expect my info to make anyone a professional puller. That is something that only experience can do. But I didnt see any reason for him to come back at me like he did. No one else on this thread who has replied to me has been hateful towards me like he was. They simply offered their reasons as to why running a bigger gear may not be a good choice. He doesent have to take my advice. But that was MY advice. Does no one else see where he pretty much went off on me for just giving my opinion? I didnt want to get worked up about it, but he was the first one to get worked up, so I followed in after him.
