Big Rigs Talk about other Cummins powered vehicles here. As a matter of fact, it doesn't even have to be Cummins, but it will be diesel! :)

L10 325HP cummins with 650,000

I am looking at a International 10 wheel dump truck with a Cummins L10 325HP with 650,000 miles. Truck is in great shape. Truck works daily. Is the mileage a concern with these engines?

The L10 is a very reliable engine but with 650k on the clock it is due for an inframe. If you can get access to the maintenance records scour them over. Also that engine is a single head design, if it is in a short nose International is is a real pain to remove, luckily removing them is not a common occurrence.

Good luck

86

I think I might take a chance with the 86. I am a gambling man......!!!!

I will only be putting around 25,000 miles on during the summer. I deliver landscaping materials to locals. If I can get another 100,000k out of the engine before in-frame I will happy.....

What would it take to put 3 stage J brakes on this truck? Is it a complicated install for a competent mechanic?

I have never installed one on an L10, not even sure they are available for it. If I recall only an exhaust brake was available for that engine. As far as installing one they do get complicated and are ver expensive.

Tim I ended up purchasing my old 82 International back. I owned the truck for 3 years before I sold it. I new it had a NTC engine. But was really never clear if the engine was original or rebuilt. I called Cummins to tell me a little about the engine that is in the truck. Cummins installed a new NTC 350 in the truck in 1993 when the truck was at a California Air Force Base. Truck has 490,000. Engine has 185,000 with three stage J brakes. I forgot how good the trucks runs.

Tim the speedo cable in the truck is broke. Where does the speedo connect under the the truck?

Thanks....

Are you sure it has a cable? Usually it has a ring behind the tranny output yoke and a holographic pick up.

Dang, pick-ups were still running cables until the mid-late 80s.
