Who has one or knows someone with one? The full meal deal full billet blah blah

How do they compare to the other big name built trannies?

.....IE cost, function, reliability......

Trying to guage where I should by an automatic from when I swap from handshaker to slushbox.

Im interested in this too as i might be looking for a full deal at the end of the month. Also can someone list the "real world" hp numbers you should need the different shafts for, like how much power before i need billet input, intermediate, output and if a flex plate is worth the extra coin?
Thanks

I almost always stay out of transmission talks, but I have been very happy with my DTT tranny. Still feels tight and shifts are firm after 6 years and over 100,000 km's. When I finally add more power to the 98 I will not even think twice about driving down to Bill K's shop and let them work their magic. I had a great time when there, standing around watching/helping them put my tranny together. Did not help much, but it was cool to be there and see everything being done. Went to lunch and dinner with them, they took me to my hotel and picked me up the next day. It was great! And I got a wolfpack t-shirt! LOL When I did have an issue with my tranny, Bill was more than helpful guiding me through all the trouble shooting. Even gave me his cell # for evening and weekend calls.

From what I can see, NADP seems to have their transmissions figured out. I was reading an old issue of Diesel Power from march of 2007 and on page 84 the story in print there either tells me they figured out or had alot of bad luck to put it nicely.

The only person I know who has one is Kevin (Morkable) and he can probably fill you in on how he likes his.

Demon, I am running a NADP full race series. Unfortunately I have 0 experience with any other brands to give you any comparison. I will let you know how I like them after this race season. I can say this the warranty has been good, they have replaced it 3 times with no cost to me

3x replacement is impressive. The HP being put out these days is getting into the experimental ranges for reliability.

Just to give you guys an indication of what we have achieved with our transmissions, Project X has our full race series in it and it hasn't broken down once. They laid a beating on it too. Mike Drever's truck has a full race in it as well, handles the power great. Petersen's Offroad Mag did a dyno test with our tranny and they gained over 220 lb-ft of torque from the stock tranny. But enough of this....

If your looking at other brands, because there are other good ones out there as well, make sure you know what your getting. Make sure the claims they make are proven. Also make sure the parts they say are in the transmission are actually in there. Ask them what parts they put in it. A well built full race transmission (for Dodge's as an example) will easily handle 800 rwhp with the right billet parts, a well modified VB and proper torque converter. Do your homework and ask around, like your doing right now , and you will find yourself a tranny that will last as long as you own the truck.

But also remember a tranny is only as good as the guy driving the truck. If he/she beats the crap out of their truck and doesn't know how to properly drive the truck, the tranny won't last. There is no such thing as a bullet proof tranny.

The hardest thing on transmissions is towing. I've owned three different transmissions, all on my bill. So far its been the worst thing about the truck. The one I like the best so far was my old PDR unit and TCS converter. I got 125000kms out of it and I ran it hard. DTT told me that this will be my last tranny but time will tell. I still have my old PDR unit, the entire thing was scrap. The only thing that in the new one is the OD unit and my billet output shaft. My last billet input and intermediate shaft was junk. DTT have an oversize input shaft and torque converter thats been in truck with a lot more HP than mine.

Dennis made some good points. Research is the key and knowing who is putting it together for you helps. Top vendors you will hear about, in no specific order, are Goerend, DTT, ATS, HTS, NADP.

lil dog, how did your father make out with his automatic truck? Dodge have a pretty good deal, $5-6k installed and you get a dodge warranty for 60k km's. Of course its a stock transmission, but you dad got lots of mileage out of the stock transmission. I must drive differently than him. I used to think that I drove like an old man but maybe not. I followed a ricer home from work today. I hugged his bumper up to 100 mph. My truck need some front end shortly so I'm trying to limit how fast I go.
