Wheel bearing and huge tow bill

Driving through Banff a few days ago I blew a wheel bearing on my truck.
after being towed 40 km and paying $570 to tow my truck and a 8' trailer. Another $1200 for the wheel bearing repair and $250 for a car rental. Makes me never want to drive through a National Park ever again.
I could have gotten a bed truck for cheaper.
Just wondering if anyone was interested in exchanging info on good services such as tow companies, repair shops and such throuh out the province and others.

AMA - I dont have it but I know its well worth the money when you need it. The first 200kms are free I believe.

If you could've waited a week on the parts, I would have told you to buy the EMS manual hub kit. Get rid of those unit bearings with serviceable bearings, for less than what you paid.

It is funny every parts place has them when a person does not need it.
when you do need one, ohh sorry we just sold the last one.

I haver to get a bearing for the driver side now and replace it for good measures. That will be the end of the month project.

What is the price on the EMS bearings?

AMA Premium RV Plus......$160 a year, will tow both your truck and trailer up to 320km's free.

It's cheap insurance as well as all the other benefits...free fuel if your run dry, lock service, maps, blah blah blah.

I've had it for years and have used it on a few occasions, worth every penny.

AMA is the way to go. I have had a membership for many years, worth every penny, even when you don't use it. I even worked for them way back when. Helped many stranded motorists, and the uniforms were to die for - can you say chick magnet? No, your right, I'm remembering it all wrong. Dark navy polyester on a 30 degree day - nothing like it.

Horrible story!! I just changed out a bad steering box, panhard etc... and still having death wobble issues right when i've gotta get back up to ft.mac from vancouver island. Would be nice to have a network of people to look up when traveling long distances if something goes sideways. I've got a trailer and winches if anyone is in a bind on the island.
Cheers!

I have had to use my AMA 2 times in the Past 2 months with my truck. With the premium membership thats when you get the first 200km free. I just got the regular AMA and with that package its only the first 5km free. I have had good luck with them only one time it took them super long when I was stuck out at Castrol raceway I think it took them to get an 1 and a half to get there. But in the end I got the tow for free so that was good. I am always going to have this membership now.

Not yet, I went through all the boxes last time I was home to make sure everything was there. Whenever I get more than one day off, I plan on putting it in.
