What ya guys think???

Ok today, I went from really happy to really bumbed out today. I order a manifold for a 12V last week. Just put the manifold onto a flat table today, found the inner and outer pieces off the manifold are 1/8in or so off the table. Going to have to drop the manifold off for machining. I wonder how many guys check this stuff... By the way, that's a thrust bearing off a 98 CTD under the foot. First time I've seen a thrust bearing that actually failed like that. I'll post pics on that later.

Nothing wrong with that manifold. Bend the outer sections down and it'll be flat.

BTW, if you didn't get my e-mail, main bearing oil clearance is .0027"-.0047". Drop the crank in it and go.

Good idea, probably have to reheat it up. Probably flake some of the paint off.

Thanks mon, been thinking the same thing. Ripped apart that 12V engine in about 3hrs, almost like I know what I'm doing. got 3thou on that crank and rods..

The joints are still flexible. Bolt the middle section first, then bolt the ends. Easy as π.

I'll give that a try, hopefully that straightens it up decently. Still will have the manifold machined to get it true.

Nice piece that manifold, just needs some die grinding. First 12V ATS manifold I've seen. Should have got a T-4 manifold.

Machine it if it leaks, otherwise leave it. I'll buy you a case of beer if it leaks without it being machined. You've gotta put gaskets in it though, no cheating.

The trust bearing in that 12V we hauled back from storage, the trust bearing was broke off and was just hanging.

Auto truck must just kill trust bearings. Wonder what my 02 looks like..

Again on that 12V, a few of the piston rings end gaps on a few pistons lined up, perfectly. Go figured, wonder if it came that way from cummins. There was some discoloring on the piston skirts, but nothing to severe. Wonder how much cylinder pressure you would have had with the rings lined up like that.

What are the end gaps on the rings? like 0.010? The instantaneous blowby on that would be squat considering the area is less the piston to liner fit.

Book specs are 35 to 45 thou, probably go abit higher depends on service application. Here is the specs on the pistons. Someone was asking about different pistons specs. If you need standard size 180 pistons, I have a four to five available. One got kinda melted...

So was Tate right? Bolt it up and it pulled in as the joints have some flex to them? I know you wanted that case of beer.

Forgot about doing that, been busy. Been trying to get the front bumper off this 98 truck. It has front hooks, must be a half dozen rusty/bent bolts on each hook. This is the first truck I've seen with bent sway bar tie end links. Lots and lots of mud packed under the bumper.

I'll get it done today, just finished up that 12V yesterday. Going to get a bunch of stuff powder coated. Should almost be show quality. I'm post some pics. I got a pretty decent deal on powder coating.

No worries. I bet the ats will bolt up fine. Shouldn't need any machining. Powder coating with show quality finish. Sheeesh those twins are going to be the best looking thing on the whole truck.

I think I owe Tate a bottle of gibson's. Ya he was right again.

Going to do some port matching on the turbine inlet flange for ya.
