truck wont start

So where do I start truck has been taking longer to fire for a while now. And today just wouldn't start I tried pulling the fuel pump fuse to see if it was the vp diafram. It wasen't really any different with the motor hot or cold so I don't think its the vp. Any ideas?

One idea I have been losing my tach latley, where is the tach pick up on these trucks or can I replace it? Would the truck not start if its not picking up rpm?

Could do the three key on/off thingy and see what codes you get? Just have a paper handy. Do you have fuel pressure at the pump? Is there fuel at the injector?

What, your sure. It should, its worked on my 87 dodge shadow, 88 1500 ram and my 02. Not sure about the 10 yet. The check engine light flashed, you just count the flashes. The 02 a code comes up both for the ecm and pcm

Theres a couple of years that you need to have a code reader. I believe its 98 and 99.

I didnt read that right Kenny...it doesnt start at all?

Is the truck hard to start, the truck cranks and cranks over?
Do you have fuel pressure at the injection pump? If the first intial start is hard to start, after it starts ok/normal? You getting fuel at the injectors? Did you do anything recently like change injectors. You have fuel leaking out the connector tubes, because of those pesky orings leaking fuel.

Check that 140 AMP fuse under the hood. My 2001 was famous for burning that one up..

Well I went to play some golf and have a few beer to calm down and when I went back to my truck it fired right up, but my tach dropped mutiple times on the 15 minute ride home so I'm going to put a new sensor in tonight and hope that does it. From what I understand the truck will stay running if it looses the crank shaft position sensor but can't start without it

Any issue getting the sensor out of the block? I tried pulling it out of my 2k engine and I gave up before I broke something. Luckily, haven't had to change it in my dually yet.

No problems getting it out but I have replaced it some 3-4 years ago. It seems to kinda pop out and in so I could see where one would stop befor getting it. I used a 1 foot pry bar as I'm not to patient.

Thanks for the offer dr. Evil but I should be good for now at least
