Standalone Lift pump options.

What's the best standalone electric lift pumps out there? Or mechanicals? Recommendations!


Some back ground info, I suppose my scenario is a little unique.

Ok, 12v in a superduty isn't exactly unique, but my fuel system might be. So standard F350 side tank, I added the big rear 2nd tank from the F450. I have 2 hellman sumps that I will plumb in parallel. I have a water separator/primary filter/primer pump assembly off a 14L series60. And the secondary filter assembly off same engine.

What's my best options for my particular setup. Also I have no idea what my engine makes for horsepower. But if I had to guess its over 500 maybe more depending on what turbo or turbos I actually use.

factory lift pump and the walbro are the cheapest options for a 12V. Could also run a fass or airdog, just cost more $$$. Just make sure that your overflow valve is working correctly and your not wasting fuel pressure with it. Using the walbro, you can get VP like starts vs. the mechanical requiring several cranks (more CR like).

Not necissarily looking for cheapest option, but best option.

How much power will the stock mechanical lift pump support?

That's the thing, I don't want to make the swap happen set everything up then 6 months down the road have to rework the fuel system cause it can't keep up.

I would guess that the stock lift pump is good for around 500rwhp and the walbro is around 600rwhp. Tate is still using one on his 12V daily driver. RonA runs the stock mechanical and feeds it with a Fass pump, he around the 1000rwhp mark.

Hey thats not a bad idea at all, force feed the stocker. Can't really hurt the stock piston pump that way.

Stockers are capable of 600+ hp. I'd leave it until you hit that mark and actually start losing fuel pressure.

Ron A runs a FASS in PARALLEL with his stock lift pump. When he races or does a dyno, he'll turn the FASS on. The rest of the time, its on the stock pump alone. He's had so many issues with the electric pumps, thats why he still uses the stock lift pump as the primary pump.

Close guess. The walbro works great. Hard to beat the stock lift pump though both for price and durablity.

no issues at all. I'm going to make sure I have everything in place though. Then even if it still a good runner, I'll sell it as a good runner. It was a new crate engine from Ford in 2008 so its pretty new still.

What size hose you think I need. Between the sumps of each tank to fill up with the stock filler neck and have it self fill the rear tank?

Think 1" is good enough? Im not sure what flow rates are. But it'll have to flow more than half the rate that the pump puts in or I'll be hooped.

Most pumps I fill up at use 3/4" hose, so 1" should keep up decently, as long as the the tank that is balancing can vent the air out quick enough. Might have to pull the cap off both tanks when you fill to purge the air out quick enough.

when i was researching and shopping for my LP choices i settled on the mechanical MITUSA - very similar to the GDP Fuel Boss. from what i was told, with 3/8" lines and the stndard pump - it can safely support +600 hp.

i run it as a standalone. no electronics whatsoever.
