how to wire VP44 for standalone operation
good day,
I'm days away from swapping my 01 vp44 motor into a new towrig, This motor is going to have the ecm wired to stand alone( On the ECM you have a red/wht wire at pins 48 and 50 they need 12v. On the inj pump pin 7 red/ltgrn 12v. Grounds are pin 6 (inj pump) and pins 30 and 49 on ecm, all are blk/tan ) correct???????
My question is... is that the right wiring for stand alone and if my edge comp is pluged in will it still work???
thanks for the help in advance for any help you guys can offe

Are you putting a 01 engine in something earlier? The ECM needs the PCM also. I suppose you are installing all wiring with 01 engine!!
Believe you will find it's a little more than two wires involved.
As example: 01 has electronic oil pressure from switch to ECM, to PCM, to cluster and finally gauge. I can go futher.

I have read threads were people have done this mod.... its the same way this style motor is set up in the F650 Fords.... with only the ECM on the side of the block, look at all of the engine sensors then follow the harness' they all run back to the ECM.
Or Am I Way Off On This?

On my 1999 Freightliner truck, there is no PCM. The truck has only two computers, the ECM and the module on the VP. The ECM controls the VP by messaging over the data bus.
So, it can be wired for standalone operation. Whether that is straightforward or not is not clear. For instance, the vehicle speed signal on my truck is fed directly to the ECM. With a PCM involved, I suspect the vehicle speed signal is fed to the PCM first and after processing by the PCM is fed to the ECM.
