[QUOTE=StealthDiesel;2922734]The Dodge 6 speed 68RFE has really nice ratios. Closer than the 6 speed Allison or the 5 speed Allison or the 5 speed 5R110.
Mike H. mentioned this also when he was towing with his 2010 Dodge.

The 68RFE should be a drop in for the 48RE and a very simple swap for the older Dodge trucks. No bell housing adapters required unlike an Allison swap.
This would keep your Dodge truck closer to OEM for easier parts support in the future.

The aftermarket is just getting started with the 68RFE. Once they figure it out, plus a standalone controller,
I'm sure it will be just as stout as the built 48RE, Allison or 5R110 & much more popular for swapping.

Just my thoughts..[/QUOTE

time will tell if the tranz ,,, and if dodge keeps using these tranz ,,, but there have pump issue right now ,,, so dodge is saying .... if i was doing the swap i would do a allison or 5r110 parts are so easy to get parts and there is lots of them in the bone yards

I would look hard at the ford 5R110.

The ford has a 3.1 first gear and a final drive of 0.70.
The dodge RE/RH-47/48 has a 2.45 first gear ratio and final drive of 0.69.
The RFE-68 has a 3.23 first gear ratio and a final drive of .63
The NV-5600 has a 5.63 first gear ratio, final drive of 0.73
The G56 has a 6.29, final drive of 0.79

Luck has it, I have three auto 4x4 RE/RH 47/48 available. I just have the older 2nd gen t-case.

There is a controller available for the RFE-68 and a built RFE-68 is around $4500-5000, just abit more money than a RE-48.

Yes, the RFE68 is very nice towing, behind the 6.7L engine. Even stock, the truck has lots of power for towing.

I have one RE-48 trans that has billet shafts and an aftermarket torque converter.

Rob, very good point....

A used 5 speed Allison or Ford 5R110 would be much easier to find & likely much cheaper than the Dodge 6speed 68RFE that has only been around since 2007.5.

In a few years dodge will be coming out with a new 8 speed tranmission, at that point most of the aftermarket is out of date. The RFE68 will have only been used for 5-6 years and is a dead transmission line, just like the RE48.

I really doubt that the aftermarket will be as good for the RFE68 as it is for the 5R110 or the RE48 transmissions.

A good decent built RFE68 transmission 500rwhp area, is $5-6k, plus converter. No billet parts and there is that expensive core charge.

Funny i'm doing the exact opposite. Getting rid of the 07 with the 48RE for a older standard. I kick myself everyday for getting rid of my 04 with the NV5600. I can't stand dodge autos, even the RFE-68 I cannot tolerate driving. Always lug the engine, never shift at the right time, and shift like crap and don't stand up. Plus I find on icy roads you might as well close your eyes because you have no control in a auto whatsoever compared to a standard, relieing totally on brakes is so annoying when they are already terrible.

I thought the RFE68 with the H&S tuner was better than the allison six speed. Drive my brother's 08, now that was a sluggish truck. Been trying to get him to put a h&s on it for a trial run.

I want to put a 5R110 in my 02, matched to a 6.7L

I agree, auto sucks, drove the kids to school in Mrs.'s WV the other day cause it's cheaper on diesel, however got right back and warmed up the truck to go out, I hated the auto on icy roads.......

You have that truck on Kijiji don't you? I've had it on my saved list for like 3 months but don't have the $$$. Its exactly what I want. It will probably be summer before I've got any money but if you still have it would you be interested in my 2003 6spd dually? We'd have to work out how much cash I'd throw in.
