legal exhaust

To be legal, does the exhaust have to exit outside of the vehicle body or just the passenger compartment area? The exhaust tip on my truck exits in the standard location, directly behind the passenger side rear wheel. The tip has been damaged, and instead of welding on a replacment, I was going to cut the end off. By cutting the exhaust, the pipe would end just to the right of the spare tire. Or, I could cut the exhaust off even farther forward and have it end before the rear axle.

I don't think it any real issue where you cut it off.

If you cut it so it's below the truck, my concern would be the mess of sooting everything up underneath. I would try and have the exit out towards side or rear of the truck personally.

What Homestead said plus the matter of diesel exhaust fumes being that much closer to the cab area and finding their way into the cab. Not very pleasant! IMHO it would be better to exhaust to the outside of the box, pointing down.

Cheers!

I've bought some odds and ends for exhaust from Greggs, seemed to have just about anything a fella could need.

One foot, good to know. Now before I start working on the exhaust. Has anybody heard anything more about the proposed noise bylaw that is supposed to be going to be put in place within the Calgary city limits?

I had an old gasser and had the muffler dump in front of the diff. Well, a little while later, it melted the plastic cover and siezed up the emergency brake cable. Wasn't bad for fumes though.

As for parts, when I built my own stacks, I went to Traction which is the heavy truck division for NAPA. I built a whole system for about half of what Grand Rock wanted.

Apparently it's going to apply to any vehicle not just bikes.

Any idea what the test guidelines would be? Would they be to test your truck if you had stacks?

Anything larger than stock exhaust can get you hassled these days if the cops are bored and need to fill quota.

Knock on wood for me....So far never had any problems with the city police or the RCMP with my stacks...I had the city police behind me and beside me and no problem..But one day I could have a problem..I drive like a old man and don't stunt,so maybe that helps...Old fart thinking he is a 20 year with stacks..
