Insurance?

Hey guys dont really know if this is the right place but maybe some of my fellow Alberters can help me out.

How do you guys with modded trucks deal with your insurance? I've been told that engine and suspension modifications can void your policy etc etc. Does anyone have a policy that covers their mods? Does such a thing exist? Or do you do like me and just hope you never hit somebody?

Please dont scare me with big words like DEDUCTIBLES...

Thanks guys

Take pictures of "all your Mods" and make copies of" all your receipts"...Send them to your insurance company and make sure they file them in your policy..My insurance company was at the world of wheels last year for vintage vehicles, but they also do standard, every day drivers..I had my truck at the event and they recommended to send them everything, photos and bills...

I haven't told them a thing about my vehicles. When I started my policy with them is when I bought my dually, they were asking if I even had a CD player in it. I told them no. Of course, when I started the policy, it was true. But they seemed to be interested in anything that wasn't factory, and it wasn't giving me the warm and fuzzies. My truck doesn't look much different than what it did when I bought it, but I'm sure they wouldn't like whats under the hood in either of them.

Never thought about that sort of stuff, even with a business policy on my 97 for O&G coverage.

I didn't have any issues with my insurance company when i had my accident in the "96. The adjuster just wrtoe on the claim "aftermarket bumper", didn't ask about performance mods or anything. He did say that if it hadn't been a diesel then it probably would have been a write off. I don't think it's a big deal unless you are actually racing the truck on a regualr basis or if you want to have have proof in case of a write off situation.

I don't have anything to comment for the automobile insurance world,
But when I developed my basement of my house, I called the insurance co to let them know of the addition-so that if I were flooded out, it would be covered.

I asked them what would have happened if i didn't tell them about it-

They told me that they are obligated to repair/ fit the property anyways.

So, basically, my house insurance premiums went up 30% just because I felt like being a good guy..... Just my .02. I am not sure if the auto world works the same.

I'm just scared that if they knew that a guy was modding his truck, they'd think he would be more likely to do illegal stuff with it and/or more likely to have an accident, which would cause you to have to pay more.

Anyway thanks for the replies I was just wondering if theres a secret to this that I didn't know about.

My policy states any performance modifications, lifts, power mods etc will void my insurance.

I guess my insurance company is a bit different...One company does home insurance, auto and auto collectables...I guess they give more leway ,because alot of their auto colectables are modded vehiles..One example is a 1923 T-bucket...those are not running in any type of stock form any more..
Four of my vehicles are under collecable insuranse..My truck being to new for any apprasial, they placed it more in two policys..But then...I'm not running any serious mods on my truck...And they know that..Its more the body, that they recommended I send them pictures

My insurance said that if I were to double the hp of my truck or put a big turbo or any kind of mods on it, they would not cover me. I asked the guy how my truck stock is only 235hp and if I double that, its not covered, yet I can go buy a new PSD tomorrow with 400hp from the factory and they wouldn't have a problem insuring that? He couldn't give me a straight answer. They are all just ripping us off anyway.
