H&S tuner

I went out and bought a Mini Max tuner,
I pretty much bought the tuner for the high idle feature,

A couple of things I noticed with this truck pre and post tuner,
Under 2000RPMs and the truck falls on its face, the power does not really come on untill over 2000rpms.

The power that comes on seems to never be consistant, nor does the exhaust brake function.

The engine fan never seems to shut off, not sure if that is a result in the exhaust system needing the extra cooling or what.


It is to early to tell if the Programmer has increased fuel milage or not, but initial results is 100km/60miles more per tank. We will see what happens over the next couple of tanks.

On the H&S what is the torque guage, what does it read and where does it read from?. Mine never seems to move. I know it is suppose to read torque, but is that engine or tranny?

Next does the Pyro 1 setting read some sort of OEM pyro? If so what should the temps normally be on that pyro?

What tune are you running in the mini? Mine works well, except I can't reflash my flash card. I still run an older tune in my H&S, as it seems to work well.

Might want to check and see if you have any defuels set-up, as the stock turbo will have egt issues.

Most I can run empty is the mild tune and use the stock tune for towing. I got a 1000km's out a tank of fuel out the truck (of course going to Vancouver) my 02 most I've gotten is 850km's. My 2010 has a 135 litre tank and the 02 has a 130 litre tank.

I am running it on mild, I am wondering if the OEM has a pyro installed because it is seeing a pyro heat. I have not installed a pyro as they are on back order.

Perhaps H&S has already changed their programming to read EGT from the ECM, the 2011 trucks have I think 3 exhaust temp sensors from factory but after delete only one remains. What sort of readings are you getting?

I am seeing between 400 to 550 in heat. But I thought this was kinda low. I will go out for a good drive later on and see what I can get this thing to do.

I would guess that to be about right if it's post turbo about 1/3 to 1/4 the way down the exhaust system, which is about where the first temp sensor is. On the hiway empty my egt is 600-750 pre turbo right in the exhaust manifold.

Mike I have run into issues with being unable to reflash my card in my mini as well, in your case take it out of yor black maxx and stick it in your computer, check the properrties of the card, the system format must say "FAT" not FAT 32 or anything else, if it does...reformat the card to be the FAT system type (it should show up as an option in your format screen somewhere). then just download the full SD card file from H&S and reload it on your card and you should be good to go.....

If any of that needs further explanation shoot me a PM and il try to explain it a little more better..... it barely makes sense in my mind but i figured it out on mine haha

Did some driving on Sunday and come up with a few EGT numbers.
At idle pyro 1 Pyro 2
390 420
110km/hr 680 670
120km/hr 670 660
110km/hr 1km uphill 710 690
Some time Pyro 2 will heat up faster then 1 and retain 100-200degs more. But it does not seem to be consistant.

I did get pyro 2 up to 1100 degs when I stomped on it at 1100rpm, let spool up then rode it up to 2200rpm, once it hit 2000 rpm the egts dropped right down tp 740ish.
I noticed the egts are very consistant through out the range. Which is a good thing.

I'm going to try reconnecting the one temp sensor I have left, unplugging the aftermarket Pyro then do the latest down load to see if the Mini maxx will read the EGT from the ECM. Interesting to note you are getting readings from 2 different locations. I just had a thought, if the DPF delete pipe has bungs then it might be possible to stick another of the factory sensors back in and have 2 readings, kind of a double monitoring system.
