H & S Tuner Purchase

I am looking at purchasing a DPF delete kit with an H & S tuner from Alligator Performance.

They have been very helpful with any quesitons I have had.

Now I have a few questions for those of you that have installed these types of systems before.

1) Once I install the Delete pipe for the DPF, what do I do with the sensors?, the pipe i'm getting comes with no bungs.

2) What level are you running the program on?

the have told me that i have a choice from 0, 40, 80, 175 HP.... I don't want anything crazy, and i want to play it safe... its my daily driver....

I tow on a regular basis, although i may not max out the rating on the truck, i don't want to risk getting the EGTs too high.

My main reason for doing this is to get better mileage, I don't know how much longer I can afford to get 13 mpg...

Any information or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

leave the sensors in the factory exhaust and route the harness (body side) away from any exhaust.

tow in level 1

SIDE NOTE: I am going to be in El Paso this saturday. lets gather the wagons and have lunch at Rudy's

Another Question!!!

Just how much is removed with the EGR delete...

I want to be able to return it to stock if i have problems...

Should I just do an EGR block off instead?

Will a block off kit allow a pyrometer installation as easily as the delete kit?

i have everything to return to stock if I had to. Don't throw ANYTHING away. the v-band clamps for the front cross over tube are $96 ea at the dealer! if you leave EGR stuff there and just unplug it, you will have to drill the exh manifold to get EGT probe.

Sorry to jump in here, I'm in the same boat as the original poster. It's my understanding that you want to leave the EGR plugged in- or you lose 50hp, or is that an old wives' tale? Doesn't the H&S keep the EGR closed?

Also, a note to the original poster- I found the sticky at the top of the page on this subject to be of great help.

that is on an untuned (OEM programming) truck. if you do the deletes (Smarty or H&S), the EGR system is removed and sitting on the shelf

H&S has dpf installed and race only tunes. No sure about the dpf tunes, I still have my egr and egr cooler installed/throttle butterfly valve. The second cat and dpf are still brand new in storage. Been that way for nearly 2 years. I run my tuner on mild and I typically get around 18-20mpg. I have 50000miles on mine now, its been deleted from day one.

Thanks for all the help. How many parts are involved in the EGR delete.

Im being lazy about returning it to stock if the need is there...

I'm hoping to get at least 17mpg with the upgrades.

When you say "mild", I assume that you are refering to the 40HP setting. Am I correct?

Depends on which tune your running. Some have more power than others. I would guess 40-50rwhp, I dynoed 330rwhp on mine, but that was with 6.8.11 tune. You also gain 1-2mpg with the mild tune vs stock.

When talk with the techie, he told me that i would bet better mileage with the middle tune (80hp) than i would with the mild.

I don't completely understand how.

Currently getting 13 mpg, with the DPF delete, I am hoping to get around 17 to 18.

I am also going to do the EGR/Cooler delete.

higher hp tunes that are driven lightly to get max mileage gets better mileage than the lower hp tunes driven the same way.

The timing is more advanced on the higher power tunes, and you get more duration event on the injector cycle. Just another advantage of running H&S over stock. As for why, EPA restricts how much tail pipe emissions.
