fuel line in the back of the head

What does this do? Can I block it off? I was following the line and it seems to just go to the fuel filter cannister, which then goes to what used to be the rail (which is unhooked as I have a dual feed line on there) So from what I can see this is just taking up space. Am I right?

Wrong. Mine was leaking from the banjo fitting last month. Just had to tighten it up, but found out in the process that it's the return line for the excess fuel from the injectors.

on the second gens, it routed to a T fitting in the return line to the tank. 1 line from the VP, and one from the back of the head, then back to tank.

how about returning it to the non-factory tank or return line.

I know thats a pretty big leap there, but its the best I can come up with right now....

Hi Kevin,

As CTD Hauler posted, the fuel line from the back of the head is the injector excess fuel return line.

The CR fuel system routing is complex IMO.

There are actually 3 fuel returns. They all join together at the fuel filter cannister into the one return line back to the tank.

1. The injector fuel return line from the back of the head.
2. The rail excess pressure return line. From the pressure relief valve on top of the rail.
3. The excess fuel line return from the CP3.

All 3 are routed to the fuel filter cannister. A passage in the fuel filter cannister connects them.
A line from the fuel filter cannister returns to the fuel tank.

Do you have a service manual for your truck? The fuel system chapter is about a 100 pages to explain it all.

Well I have the rail blocked off, I have the cp3 excess blocked off,, so do you think it would be bad to have the excess from the injectors blocked off?

The rail pressure valve being capped & that return line removed is common.

I've never heard of the CP3 excess fuel return & the injector excess fuel return lines being blocked though.
I would be concerned with blocking those off, but this is the extent of my knowledge.

It could push fuel into the oil thru the injector orings. Kev, you have to have a return line, two Fass150 fuel pumps would have to move tons of fuel. Usually there is two lines. You running a fuel cell? There might be a return line available that way. You could just put in a bung into the tank just for that line if you get caught. I bet there more fuel bypassing the injectors than we would like to consider. Wasted/lost HP, just on connector tube pressure loss/drain.

On unit injectors, if you block the return line, you will hyrdo-lock the injectors. Even the CR injectors are actuated by solenoids, I'd imagine it would be similar. Plus, and leakage from the connector tubes is gonna go into that cavity in the head. Block it off, and it will blow past the o-rings in the injectors and contaminate your oil.
