Dyno cost

I think its time to deal...We are getting more and more trucks ever event, and I think its time to see if we could get a little better rate for our dyno events..I would say more people would dyno, even if the cost was $80 a run..What do you guys think would be a fair rate for a dyno spin???

I talked to Jamie, and CWC is ok to have our events at there shop...We could even have mid-winter dyno there because diesel smoke is of no concern...So we have a great start...We have a comapny in Red Deer which what everyone wanted...

IMO, I would prefer 3 dyno runs instead of 2 & would pay $100 for that.

$80 for 2 runs would be fine.. $80 for 3 runs would be a really good deal.

Somebody mentioned yesterday about renting it for a day, instead of per truck. Lots of dynos are $140/hr. Thats $1400 for a 10 hour day. They made that off 14 trucks, which was less than 6 hours yesterday. Its a lump sum up front, and if we have less than 14 trucks, we'd be paying more than $100 truck. If we had 25 trucks, it would be a little more than $50/truck. Conversely, if we have a lower turn out of trucks, you'd actually have some tuning time.

That being said, he needs to get it set for dynoing diesels. The reason I didn't run wasn't because of the the money, but because it wasn't set properly. No point in paying $100 for inaccurate numbers.

Yes I agree, hopefully things will be different next time and I will be able to go. I will spend the evening before with him to help him get it setup, like I did with both Martin and over at sub racing

So enlighten me. IF I was to be looking at a mobile unit, what's involved in the set-up? I may have been talking to someone out of Connecticut about bringing one up here, and was wondering what the demand was vs. price per run.

I got three maybe four runs in. Chris seemed to be a hot rodder guys as well and seemed pretty helpfull. Sure seemed interested in all the trucks at the event.

You guys have to learn how to do the programmer adjusts on the fly.

As for a winter dyno, I'm sure that they will do some dealing. Not as many car shows to do in the winter.

I think $50 for 1 run, $75 for 2, or 100 for 3$ seems pretty fair to me. Though I do like Tates idea of paying for it hourly though, like he said, might give people a few more runs if you want to play with your tuning.

Demand is primarily based on accuracy of the dyno, if the dyno is good, people will come, if its horribly inaccurate, then nobody really really wants to waste money.

Most of the time is getting the truck on the trailer and strapping it down. The time difference between 1 run and 3 runs might be 3 minutes. There shouldn't be even an option for 1 run. Two runs min, make sure the two runs are accurate, then deal. Unless you are talking about 3 runs for three different settings. Maybe cheaper rehook fees for the CR guys who's programmers take longer to load, or us 12v guys who actually have to work on our trucks.

For the guys who stayed later than I did, anyone talk to Chris to see how high the load can go on the dyno? Like Mike said, it sounded like they loaded that duramax way more than the rest of the trucks.

I didn't mind the 100 bucks but if you want to run again it should only be 50.

I really think that we should talk to him about the daily rate. That way we can do as many pulls as we can get in during that alloted amount of time.

I just talked to DPS in Calgary.. I was hoping to run my truck on their dyno to compare & to baseline my truck on a local dyno...

Just for comparison, their regular rate is $150 for 3 runs but their dyno is down for at least 2 weeks...

It just never works out everytime I call DPS for anything & I live 3 minutes from them. It looks like I'm married to the mobile CCMR dynojet...

Just called CCV (Canada Custom Vehicles) in Red Deer, where we dynoed last year...

They now say they do not have a dyno & have no plans on getting one to offer that service again...

CCMR for the win...
