Mike you should come over and have a real close look at mine before you descide. I'll put it on jack stands and pull the rims. so you can see up close. it dwarfs any other D60 stuff.

this is a super60. photos just dont' give a good size refernce though.....my rear disks are 17" the fronts are not that much smaller. and the calipers are huge. you can sort of see how big the front rotors are sitting inside a 19.5" rim.

see where the coil sits on the driveside. the '80s ford Hipi D60 dont have enough room to fit the coil mount without it being partially on the housing.......as you can see the super60 already has one and you can just about bolt your links on/

Luke, I'll take you up on a visit. I'm with ya on the beefy axles. I just looked online for aftermarket rims for 10 bolt F450 and there isn't anything cheap I will probably go the hipin route 78-79 ford 1 ton, down the road. I just have to find an axle to start with. I phoned E-town and Calgary, nothing for a hipinion truck, not to many have any parts for that age of truck. There a few available online rebuilt so there is hope. Most have 4:10 or 4:56 gears.

I want the brakes off your truck, but just in a 165X8 bolt pattern. Those are monsters, for a 6500lbs truck.

Call Martin at AFI. He has a buddy that owns a junkyard. Thats where I got my tranny/t-case. He had a couple engines too. Might have a couple axles kicking around.

I know you can convert the super60 hubs to 8 bolt. uses the rotor and junk off an F350. for a Ford 8on170mm

Now I'm not sure of the dodge super60s. if you can graft on the 8on6.5" patterns from a 3500. maybe.

or you convert you rear to 10 lug and LET 'ER BUCK!!! I know a guy in Northern NY state that has a few Hipi D60s. kicking around.

theres tons of parts availiable for D60 rebuilding. TONS. you can find OEM 3.55s in a ford D60 its a common ratio. 3.73 too.

heres the rear rotor and caliper in a 19.5" rim...............OH BABY!!!

Luke, as for the rotor, I was thinking about calling the factory and get them to pull two rotor off the assembly line, so I can get them drill here locally. Worst case you could make an adapter for the hub. I'm just gonna use the stock 3rd gen brakes, 13.8in is enough, I've gone 275000km on the 12.8in, so its gonna be a big step. I'll probably put on an exhaust brake next year as well.

I think that I'm gonna look around for a dana 60 hipin prior to buying anything. There are a few shops that sell them reconditioned on ebay, with no brackets on them.

I'm gonna just rebuild my front axle this time, but will have everything ready so the next time, I just swap in a new axle. I have all the parts at home for the stock dodge rebuild.

So next Dumb question, whats worse 30 spline inner/35 spline outter or 35 spline inner/30 spline outer? Of course you would upgrade the ford hipin to 35 outer. Hopefully that makes sense.

I've been finding hipin dana 60's that have 30 spline outers and 35 spline inners? Why would they (factory/dana factory) mix and match spline's counts? Any advantages in doing it one way vs. the other? The stock dodge is inner 30 and with an upgrade kit you'll have 35 outers. The only advantage I can see is that its easier maintance with the weaker spline count on the outer if you want a weak shear point.

all early model kingpin D60s have 35 spline inners, you upgrade the stub shafts to 35spl with larger lockouts.

dodge late model D60s like 2nd gen dodges, have junk inners. 32 spline IIRC.

Here the info in the add.

Ford early 80's - Reverse cut / High Pinion, SINGLE REAR WHEEL / SRW, King Pin, 4.10 ratio, disk brakes, open knuckle, 35 spline inner shafts, 30 spline outer shafts, 8 lug - 8 on 6.5", open differential, with locking hubs. Drivers Drop - (front driveshaft is on left.)

This is an ideal axle to convert any F250 to F350 / 1 ton / monobeam axle to eliminate that problematic TTB front end.

see that says early '80s.........its not got enough room for a coil between the diff and inner C on the driveside.

thats exactly what i was saying before. you have to have a '78 '79 version of that diff.

you can confirm the year of manufacture with the BOM number. it is stamped into the longside tube facing front. the BOM number will tell you eaxtly what year and application the D60 front is.

Well, for one, there was no early '80s Ford D60's, since all the Ford trucks were TTB. 85 or 86 was teh first year of the D60 since '79. So confirm that point.

With a 30 spline stub shaft, you have more material in the lockouts, which in theory is stronger than 35 spline lockouts. The shaft itself is stronger though. Again, unless you are doing serious off roading, 30 spline should be sufficient. Thats what I ordered for my truck, but there was a 3 month backorder, so I got the 35 instead.

Luke where did you get that info from? I've been looking everywhere for more vehicle information.

I was told that 35 spline is beefier than 30 spline, but really its pretty similar axle strength.

For kicks and giggles, a dynatrac dana 60 front kingpin, 35 inner/outer, ford brakes is $6.8k. The dana 80 was $8.2k, with a 14.5in rotor upgrade.

Thanks guys, you've help lots. I just have to figure my next steps.
