Did I get the right clutch?

I just ordered a southbend con ofe. After doing a bit of reading on here, I am not so sure it is what I want. Sounds like it is going to be noisy, and starter/flywheel issues etc. My stocker lasted 415,000 kms and the only reason I have to replace it because I broke my #4 injection line and spewed 80 liters of diesel under the hood of my truck and it somehow got my clutch wet. my stocker held my 400 hp just fine. Is everyone here happy who has a southbend clutch? I have not done any research on clutches ever, because mine has always worked! I needed a replacement clutch right away and 3 days later after a call to Harry at peak he said the one I wanted or needed was a con ofe. So before I get it installed what should I expect from this clutch? It is for my nv5600. Thanks

from what i have heard, they are a good clutch, smooth engagement, light peddle pressure and increased holding force. I went with a southbend dual disc for my truck, but my goals are a little different

Should be perfect for you. My buddy had one and it felt like stock to me and made no noise, I would not have known it wasn't stock if he had not told me.The dual discs are noisy.

I got the dual disc. Love it. However, because of the size of the clutch, getting my G56 back in was a bit of a bear. I have less noise now after a few miles over than just in, or I just don't notice it as much anymore.

I had a con of, for about a year at 550hp, no problems at all. Sold the truck, as far as I know the clutch is still in it.

Ok.. Thanks guys. I guess when I tried to do a little research last night I only read the problem posts! Typical of being on a forum. LOL hopefully it will be quiet and trouble free like my stock one! Might go look at some of old TDR books. I remember there was supposed to be something greased or not greased on the install and it was very important.

I'm on my second Con OFE only because I had a rear main seal decide it didn't want to work anymore and puked on the clutch, otherwise I would have about 250,000 km's on it right now.

It's a great clutch. I tow all the time and usually up to 10,000 lbs on a regular basis. Never had a problem with it. I think my only complaint if you can call it one is it doesn't like slow backing up with a trailer into a tight spot. I just use low range as needed in that situation and it's just fine.

Around town or in city traffic, it's not a problem either, smooth engagement and no noise.

Hope it helps.

Jeff

I've had a couple, John, with a Luk in between them. I killed the 1st one trying to pull out a loaded set of Super B's on New Year's Eve-finally succeeded but a month later the clutch went boom. Smooth & quiet-I have had the shudder in reverse issue like Jeff describes but nothing major.
