Question Calgary Oil

Where is everyone getting their oils? Motor, Diff, Tranny, etc.. I have been looking for Mobil 1 gear oil and can't find it anywhere, I can find Mobil 1 ATF + 4, just wondering the cost and addresses for all the oil you use, I'm in the NE. thanks in advance

Find an Amsoil dealer in the Yellow Pages. Any kind of lube for the truck you want, they will hook you up.

I just use Petrocanada stuff. They have oil for everything. I use the full synthic stuff. You have to go to the petropass for the good stuff. They have a full line of synethic oil.

Go to an Esso Bulk station, they should carry the Mobil line. Thats where I got it when I lived down there. There is a bulk dealer (if its still there) just down on Barlow S. just on the East side near the Shell fuel docks.. Across from the old Fertilizer plant.

Royal Purple I believe was available in both Calgary & Red Deer at authorized dealers, some Amsoil guy's like myself sell it "best price" delivered to you as we are dealers due personal need and pass on the savings to others when asked. Carefully read 1st what a true "synthetic" oil is by definition (series III vs IV PAO) to better understand price and quality structure. Mobil 1 is a series IV PAO but hard to find and less types for applications available. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of a synthetic oil for the different needs of your vehicle. Esso, Shell, Petro-Can all sell a "Full Synthetic" series III oil line that is unquestionably better for cold flow and high heat burn off than conventional oils. Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil & a few more are true series IV PAO engineered synthetic oils. PK

I'm less worried about gear oil and tranny fluid than I am about engine oil. that said though I use full synthetic esso XD3 0w-40 in winter and regular dino 15w40 in summer. I get too much free oil to worry about what brand it is. I'm working on a drum of Caterpillar 15w40 rightnow. Oh I get the winter esso DX3 0w40 in bulk pails from the esso bulk dealer off barlow tr in the se near the giant fuel depot tanks, I forget what its called.

Valvoline is a very good oil but its only a group III synthetic - meaning that it can have some dino (or petroleum) compontent to it, therefore is not in the same class as some of the others.

If you read what Pat said, there are only a handful of Group IV synthetics - these are true synthetics and do not contain any dino oil as they are made from PAO and ester base stocks and are synthesized. Oils in this class are the Esso XD-3 extra (0W40 & 0W30 only), the Amsoil stuff, Royal Purple, Mobile 1, and a few others. There are only a few of the true Group IV synthetics on the market.
